Australia is in the grips of a nationwide bushfire emergency. Help us save wildlife, and when the fires have cleared, restore our lost forests.

Right now, Australia is burning. The nation is being ravaged by the most devastating bushfire season the country has ever seen.

So far, more than 10 million hectares of Australian land have been burned. That’s equivalent to the whole country of Austria. At least 25 people have died and over 2,000 homes lost.

It’s been estimated that over one billion animals have been killed nationally. This includes thousands of koalas, kangaroos. wallabies and other iconic species being burnt alive, and many thousands more injured and homeless.

You can help WWF get emergency funds to care for injured wildlife and, when the fires clear, help restore the forest homes koalas and other animals have lost.

It’s been estimated that as many as 8,400 koalas have already perished in these fires. With your generous donations, we will be able to restore their habitat in time. You can also support our efforts by buying a sustainably-produced koala tee.

Climate change does not cause bushfires, but it does make them worse.Australia is a land of bushfires but this season’s bushfire catastrophe is not normal.Australia has been experiencing more frequent intense heatwaves and prolonged dry periods that have created tinder box conditions. Global heating is making droughts and fires hotter and more frequent as we have seen this season.We must all do our bit to protect our world from climate disaster - failure to act will make extreme weather standard, with deadly consequences for people and nature.

Although the focus of our work right now is on helping wildlife, we know this has also been a devastating time for many people in Australia. Our hearts go out to all the families and communities directly affected by the bushfires.

We would also like to recognize the heroics of the firefighters and wildlife carers who have worked tirelessly on the frontline, as well as the amazing work of the many organizations helping those in desperate need.
