Payment, Pricing and Promotions Payment Methods and Issues Payment Issues and Restrictions Authorizations

When you place an order, Amazon contacts the issuing bank to confirm the validity of the payment method. Your bank reserves the funds until the transaction processes or the authorisation expires, but it isn't an actual charge.

Some banks call authorisations "pending" or "processing" charges. After an order is placed, Amazon contacts the issuing bank to confirm that the payment method is valid and that funds are available. Most banks hold these authorisations up to 7 business days. If you are using a prepaid card, authorisations may be held for a longer period. Please contact the issuing bank for more information on their specific policies regarding authorisations.

About Card Verification

When you place your first order with us, or use a card for the first time, we may place a low-value authorisation (such as S$1) on your payment card to confirm that your card is valid. However, you will not be charged and the authorisation will lapse after no longer than 10 business days.
