Ayla was inspired by the Clan of the Cave Bear series. Her character in the books is strong, resilient, smart, feminine, multi-talented, curious and wild. I love how the name sounds and feels, it’s beautiful feminine and powerful. Ayla in Hebrew is Ayala (?????) which means Doe and has the names of God and Goddess within it several times. My husband is Israeli so this is extra meaningful and powerful for us.

My daughter born 1999 is Ayla I got it from the book Clan of the Cavebear I knew I’d name my daughter Ayla more than 10 years before she was born. Iim Kathie and I went by Katrina in beauty school because there were 4 Kathy’s. So I wanted a name that was different but easy to pronounce and remember. Some did pronounce it Isla, also Kayla was popular so she’d always say I’m Kayla without a K.

We chose Ayla for our now 2.5 year old. She loves the moon and the trees. She’s honestly like a step fore child. Pronounced like Eh-La. frustrating to have everyone call her Isla when meeting her though. Didn’t think of that.

Ayla is a Turkish origin name. Not hebrew. Eilah, Ayala can be hebrew origin names.

Our daughter is mixed race and finding a name that we both liked and felt honoured her background was difficult. Ayla has multiple origins (Indian, Scottish, Turkish) and we liked a lot of names ending in A. Ayla felt like the right choice once baby had arrived.

I always loved the name since introduced to it in Jean Auel’s Earth Children Series (Clan of the Cave Bear is the first book- it is the most recognizable title). It is simple, feminine, and unique. Fits my little one so well.
