R Dub R My air bag light is on on my 07 Silverado Classic 1500. The first code I got was a B0101 (Discard Electronic Front End Sensor 1) so I replaced the driver side with a new sensor from Napa. That did not clear the air bag light but did change the code. Now I get a B0100 code (Electronic Front End Sensor 1 Performance). Any thoughts on how to get this fixed? #1 · Oct 7, 2017 My air bag light is on on my 07 Silverado Classic 1500. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Oct 7, 2017 Two questions. Did you disconnect the battery to change the sensor? And is the replacement sensor OEM or aftermarket? Ted #3 · Oct 7, 2017 Initially I did not disconnect the battery. However after reading that could help, I disconnected if for about 2 hours then took the sensor off and reinstalled it and connected the battery and that did not turn it off. The sensor is aftermarket from NAPA. I changed it out on a Sunday and the Chevy dealership was closed. #4 · Oct 7, 2017 I can't tell you which sensor to use but I can tell you that I would only use OEM. These sensors are not just simple switches. There's a lot of circuitry inside. Rather than go through a lot of back and forth read this troubleshooting thread. https://chevroletforum.com/forum/silverado-fullsize-pick-ups-21/2005-chevy-silverado-22679/ Your Classic should have the same circuitry. Ted #5 · Oct 8, 2017 DTC B0100, B0101 or B0102 Electronic Front End Sensor 1 Performance The following conditions must be met in order to set the DTC B0100: - A valid ID message is not received within 5 seconds of the EFS (Electronic Frontal Sensor) being powered up. - Status message is not received. - The SDM (Sensing & Diagnostic Module) has reset the EFS twice without detecting a valid ID message. The SDM commands ON the AIR BAG warning lamp via a Class 2 serial data message. The following conditions may cause the malfunction: - A short to ground or voltage in the EFS circuit. - High or low resistance in the EFS circuit. - Improper EFS installed on the vehicle. One possibility is that there is corrosion in the connector where the EFS plugs into the body harness. It is also quite possible that you have a bad EFS. The other possibility is a bad SDM, however I suspect this is less likely. If you're not familiar with servicing the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint system, I'd recommend taking it to a shop. This isn't really a system you'd like to service incorrectly. #6 · Oct 8, 2017 I think what I'll do is swap the sensors. If I get a different code then I know it's a bad sensor. If not then it's a different issue and might take it in . #7 · Oct 8, 2017 Good point R Dub! Do it safely! #8 · Nov 30, 2017 (Edited) Finally got this sorted out so just wanted to reply in case this can help anyone else out. Upon talking to a tech at dealer, he said likely the pigtail connector as those corrode out. You can put a new one on but whatever you do don't use an electric soldering iron as it would blow the bag. Before I bought that, I moved the sensor to the passenger side and the the code followed the sensor so I knew it was a bag sensor and not a connector. Exchanged the one I got from Napa and still nothing so got one from the dealer and it fix it. Moral of the story A) always use OEM parts for electronics B) don't use a electric soldering iron if you do need a new pigtail connector. #9 · Nov 30, 2017 You can't use a 2 wire soldering iron because it generates static electricity. All my irons are 3 wire grounded tip. I've used those since the mid seventies when we discovered the 2 wire irons would blow cmos logic chips. It wasn't much later that I was "convinced" to use a grounding strap which I had sworn I would never do. Ted #10 · Apr 23, 2018 So my 2013 chevy cruze is throwing this code but im not sure why recently i must have got bad gas or something my car ran fine friday but Saturday morning i started and let it warm up well it died in the process im not sure why it will start and run for 3secs when you use starter fluid is this really an air bag problem or something else #11 · Apr 23, 2018 No, those are not air bag symptoms. Are they the only codes? Please list the codes If they are the only codes, I'd suspect a bad ground somewhere. #12 · Apr 24, 2018 Do do you think it could be fuel pump #13 · Oct 24, 2019 So I just realized that I never posted the solution to my issue just in case it can help anyone else. I changed out the NAPA sensor with a genuine GM OEM one and that fixed it right up. Advise is only use genuine OEM electronic parts. Insert Quotes Post Reply
