When it comes to water and lash extensions, there have been many misconceptions over the years. Here at The Lash Lounge, our stylists apply the proper amount of adhesive to cure the bonds on your individual extensions, so you’re always set for a soak in the bath or a refreshing shower. Just make sure to avoid water for the first 8 hours after your lash appointment to allow the adhesive bond to set. After that, soak away!

Even with the best lash extensions in the game, making choices that protect your lashes is a great way to keep your extensions looking healthy and full for longer.

However, myths about extensions in the water may be impacting how you care for yours. Don’t fall victim to these common fibs:

Myth 1: I Can’t Get My Lash Extensions Wet in the Bathtub or Shower

Our guests often ask us, “Can you get lash extensions wet?”

Great news: You can get your lashes wet! The medical-grade adhesive used at The Lash Lounge to attach your extensions to your natural lash is not only showerproof, but it’s nearly full-fledged waterproof, too!

And the common follow-up questions is then how long to wait to wash lashes, or, “Can I wash my eyelash extensions after 24 hours?”

While you’re safe to wash your face, we recommend waiting 8 hours until getting your lashes wet to make sure the adhesive is fully set. Luckily, wit your gorgeous new lashes, you won’t need any other lash makeup!

When applied properly (like The Lash Lounge stylists always do), each extensions will last until your natural lash is ready to shed.

Now that you know you can get your lashes wet, don’t worry if some water splashes on them during your shower or bath. However, to get the most out of your extensions and avoid any premature lash shedding, try not to let them spend too much time in the water, and be careful about getting your bath soaps and products on them.

How to Take a Bath with Eyelash Extensions

For the best results, take a bath that isn’t too hot because the steam might weaken your extension adhesive. And make sure the bathroom fan is on to remove excess moisture in the air. While washing your face in the bath, avoid rubbing your cleanser on your eyes and splashing your face with water to rinse. To clean any eye makeup, use an oil-free makeup remover. We recommend washing your eye makeup before taking a bath with lash extensions so you can avoid accidentally rubbing them and getting any of your bath products on the extensions.

Myth 2: My Lash Extensions Will Not Look the Same After I Get Them Wet

They can look the same and just as gorgeous as before, it’s all about caring for them properly.

Most people wash, brush then blow dry their hair after a shower. Why not give your lashes the same care? To keep your lashes looking flawless even after they get wet, give them a little attention.

How to Brush Eyelash Extensions After a Shower

After your eyelash extensions get wet, place a clean makeup brush on top of your lash line and gently brush down and out through your lashes. This will keep them looking fluffy and fresh and help you avoid any unnecessary tugging.

DO: Continue Your Usual Lash Care Routine

Just because your skin and hair are fabulously fresh after a long shower doesn’t mean your lashes are, too. To remove the buildup of body oils and beauty products that can accumulate along your lash line, gently clean your lashes every day to keep them squeaky clean.

If you’re one of those people who love to give your face a good rub while you’re in the shower, avoid the eye area if possible and be gentle on and near your lash line.

Vigorous rubbing or tugging or anything that causes friction can damage your lash extensions. As a rule of thumb, the less you mess with your lashes, the longer they’ll last.

DO: Take Note of the Products You’re Using While Bathing

When it comes to your lash extensions, not all products are safe to use on or near your eyelashes. Common body washes, soaps and lotions contain oil and alcohol; two ingredients terrible for lash extension longevity. Oil and alcohol can break the bond of the eyelash extension adhesive, which can cause the extension to detach from your natural lash.

For the most part, you can shower exactly how you usually do, just with a few little precautions to keep up your gorgeous lash look. Be sure to avoid getting any conditioner and shampoo near your lash line. And we know it can be relaxing to let the water run over your face, but letting the water run over your face for too long can tug on your lashes.
