Bear Gryll's returns to our screens soon as he escorts a new selection off famous faces to fend for themselves on Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls, including Roxanne Pallett following her punch row with Ryan Thomas and Love Island's Montana Brown.

Bear will also be leaving TOWIE star Pete Wicks on the island.

And while fans of the daring adventurer always thinks he's got a fitting name considering his career, many people don't know it's not the 44 year old's real name.

So what is Bear Gryll's real name?

His full name is Edward Michael Grylls.

But since he was young his sister Lara Fawcett has nicknamed him Bear.

As he became more and more well known, the dad of three opted to use the childhood nickname as his professional title.

And it looks like it's proved a popular choice....

When Cheryl and Liam Payne, who have since split welcomed their first child, they decided to name their little one Bear.

With the news broke that The X Factor stars opted for the animal-inspired name, Grylls took to Twitter to congratulate the couple.

The Man vs Wild host wrote to Liam back in May 2017: "Great choice! Love & blessings to you guys as you start on the greatest adventure... @CherylOfficial @LiamPayne."

To which Liam sweetly responded in front of his 24m followers: "Thanks man hope he grows with an ounce of your courage! Your a boss."

Kate Winslet also has a three year old called Bear Blaze, while Jamie Oliver son is called Buddy Bear and Alicia Silverstone opted for Bear Blu.

Although it's become popular with famous faces, Bear Grylls hasn't quite swept the nation with his unusual moniker.
