I once heard or read that John called Dig a Pony a “throw away song.” I think it’s a great song but if that’s what John thinks of it, then there is probably not a lot of deep meaning to the lyrics I would guess. ~Daryl

Im a huge beatles fan, but not a historian, so i could be wrong. But to me, there are alot of convoluted lines, some probably with a meaning, some probably just word play, but the chorus, "All i want is you" is repeated after every line. As if no matter what thought, arguments, ideas, no matter what happens at the end of the day, "all i want is you". No matter what the others said about Yoko, at the end of the day she is what he wanted. To me its a love song wrapped around the conflicting ideas of the band at the time.

the line when he says 'dig a moondog' is a reference to one of the bands very very early names when they were Johnny & the Moondogs.

'I dig a pony, I dig a road hog' John going along with Paul's ideas on what the Let Be Album should be about. 'All I want is you. Everything has got to be the way you want it to' Note George's statement to Paul in the Let It Be movie, "I'll do whatever it takes to please you!" Makes me think about the fustration John, George and Ringo felt over Paul's overbearing attitude during recording of Let It Be album. Also, "You can syndicate any boat you row".the differences between Paul and John over Beatles management. Not sure if every line has a meaning or just there to fill a spot in the song between the lines that say something.

Does not mean a whole lot . 1'st. verse means nothing 2'nd verse means nothing 3'rd verse refers to rolling a joint and acting silly 4'th verse means nothing Not a whole lot here other then great music .

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

It's obviously about a lover who turns pillow talk into ruminations on how to spend his money.

John's playing with words again..Phrases mixed with words that "sound" good. At one point it was called "con a lowry" (referance to an organ). The phrase "I do a road hog" started as "I dig a skylight".. Then "I did a groundhog"..etc.. He was just having fun with words. The original tune (chorus) was a love song for Yoko called "all I want is you."
