Shriners International is a fraternity based on fun, fellowship, and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief for others, and the truth. An organization of men who are dedicated to brotherhood, and the compassion and service to others. It's obviously, spiritually, more than just a fraternity - with nearly 200 Temples (chapters) in seven countries, and thousands of clubs around the world.Oasis Shriners is a very proud member of Shriners International; a governing body for all Shriners throughout the world. Shriners International provides the comprehensive, hands-on leadership allowing each Shriners' location to focus on philanthropy, maintaining traditions, and having fun!

To become a Shriner...all you have to do is just ask

In order to become a Shriner you must ask a current Shriner to support and sponsor your application. This site makes that process easier by pairing you with a virtual mentor who can answer all of your questions, guide you through the petition process, and help you get to know members and future friends of your local Shrine Temple. Some Frequently Asked FUN Questions

What significance does the emblem play?Just like the Mercedes-Benz is known for it's 3-pointed star symbol, the Shriners fraternity is known for its Crescent, or "Jewel of the Order". Carrying on the Near East theme, the emblem is composed of the claws of a tiger, united in the middle with the head of the sphinx. One the back of the emblem are a pyramid, urn, and star. Additionally, the emblem bears the motto "Robur et Furor", which means "Strength and Fury".Just as Mercedes' star represents something - domination of land, sea, and air... So does the Shriners emblem. The scimitar stands for the backbone of the fraternity - its members. The two claws are for the Shriners fraternity and its philanthropy, the Shriners Children's™. The sphinx is representative of the governing body of the Shriners, while the star hanging beneath the thousands of children helped by the philanthropy every year.How long does it take to become a Freemason?Becoming a Masonic Freemason varies by every lodge and by every state. Here in North Carolina, it's a fun and exciting path going through all the stages of the degrees - Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and finally Master Mason. The average timeframe is about 6 months, and one of our mentors will be more than happy to answer any question and help you in every aspect of this path.What are the responsibility of becoming a Shriner?Each Shriner, within their own individual personal and family allowances, is expected to at their own best attempt . . . (1) Being as active as they can in support of the entire philanthropy, .... (2) Volunteering their time at the Shriner Children's™ and all the charity gatherings, and finally (3) Help the fraternity grow by recruiting new members in becoming part of the fellowship and purpose.What Is the relationship between Shriners International and the Shriners Children's?Shriners International is the fraternity that founded Shriners Children's™ in 1922. Today, Shriners International continues to support the hospitals by raising funds, assisting patients' families with transportation, volunteering on the hospital boards, and much, much more. Children from the birth to age 18, receive specialized medical care at Shriners Children's locations.Why do Shriners wear a Fez?The Red Fez with the Black Tassel is one of the fraternity's most distinctive symbols that is seen throughout the world. It derives its name from the place where it was first manufactured - in the city of Fez, Morocco. The fez was chosen part of the famous Shriners Arabic theme, which is also the basis for the color, styles, and the pageantry, of the organization's events.Can a woman become a Shriner?While it's true that women are not members of the Shriners fraternity, they play a very important role in many aspects of the organization. There are also several independent groups for women that support the fraternity and the philanthropy. These include the Daughters of the Nile, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Shrine Guilds of North America, and Order of the Eastern Star. Organizations for children and young people include DeMolay International, Job's Daughters International, and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Image
