Beds in TerrariaBy StephenAniofAstoratamago_sensei+9.4k moreUpdated: Dec 1, 2021 7:22pm UTC

A Bed is a Comfort Item in Terraria that, when placed indoors and slept in, allows you to speed up time, increase health regeneration, and reset your spawn point to that location. The information below will explain the tools and resources required for crafting various types of Beds, as well as some tips for common issues players run into when trying to use their Bed.

How to Use a Bed in Terraria

This section offers a basic overview of Bed mechanics, including the purpose of building one, the requirements that must be met before you can use it, and certain world states that prevent use.

  • For a Bed to be usable, it must be placed inside a room that is at least 9 blocks wide by 7 blocks tall.
    • For the game to consider a space a “room,” it must have 4 exterior walls (one on the left and right sides along the axis of travel, one as a background wall, and one above to function as a roof) made of any common building materials such as Wood, Stone, Bricks, etc. (note that Dirt will not work).
  • Certain in-game events make it so you are unable to sleep. Solar Eclipses, Lunar Events, Blood Moons, and Goblin Army invasions cannot be slept through; you are also unable to sleep if there is currently an Enchanted Sundial active in the world.
  • To sleep in a Bed, simply click on the bed; your character will get into it and close their eyes, and a little “zzz” icon will appear above them. As sleeping causes time to pass quicker, this is a good way to make it through the night, when enemy spawn rate is significantly higher.

  • To set your spawn point, you do not need to sleep in the Bed, simply place it and click it once. If the Bed is destroyed or becomes inaccessible (e.g. you destroy the surrounding walls or build too close to it), your spawn point will be reset to the original starting point.
  • During multiplayer, sleeping in a Bed will not affect the rate of passing time unless all players are sleeping. Note that up to two players can sleep in the same Bed.
Tools Needed to Build A Bed in Terraria

To build a basic Bed in Terraria, you will need access to a Sawmill, which can be crafted using 10 Wood, 2 Iron or Lead Bars, and 1 Chain at a Crafting Table. Once your Sawmill is placed, consult the next section of this wiki for instructions on how to craft various Beds.
