What is the Super Bowl?

The Super Bowl is the final game of the United States National Football League (NFL) season. The winners are crowned ‘World Champions’.

In 2026 it's Super Bowl LX, meaning it's the 60th Super Bowl. The letters are Roman numerals – the L stands for 50 and the X stands for 10.

Where and when is the Super Bowl on?

Where: The Super Bowl venue changes each year. In 2026, the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA will host Super Bowl LX.

When: It’s on Sunday 8th February in the USA. It's on BBC One live but you can watch all the highlights in the morning on the BBC Sport website.

How do teams get to the Super Bowl?

There's 32 teams in the NFL who play a regular season between September and December. The best twelve teams make it to the playoffs in January and the best two teams then play in the Super Bowl. Check out the video below for more details.

Who won the Super Bowl in 2025

The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2025 after an amazing game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The final score was 40-22.

What is the Halftime Show?

The Super Bowl Halftime Show is one of the biggest events in America and some of the best artists in the world perform to millions. In the last few years Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar and Justin Timberlake have all performed. Who do you think will take to the stage and entertain everyone at half-time in 2026?

What do the champions win in the Super Bowl?

The team wins the Lombardi trophy, it's named after the coach of the first team to win the Super Bowl, Vince Lombardi.

The players each get a championship ring which usually is made of gold and diamonds. Last time the New England Patriots won, they gave out 150 rings costing $36,500 (just over £28,000) each.

How long does the Super Bowl last?

The total game time is 60 minutes made up of four 15 minute quarters. However the Super Bowl can take over 4 hours. This is due to the Halftime Show and lots of commercial breaks featuring over 100 adverts!
