| Beijing municipality, abbreviated as Jing in Chinese, is locates in the north of Huabei Pingyuan. Being the Capital of People of Republic of China, Beijing is the center of China' politcs, culture and international exchange. It covers an area of over 17,000 square kilometers, and has a population of 11.84 million. Beijing Geography: Beijing's terrain gradually decends from the northwest to the southeast, where there is the alluvial plain sloping to Bo Hai. Major rivers in Beijing are Yongding River, Chaobai River, Beiyun River, Juma River and Wenyu River. The largest reservior is Miyun Shuiku, built near the source of Chaobai River. There are also about 30 lakes in the region, among which the Kunming Lake and Yuyuan Lake are quite famous. Beijing Climate: Beijing enjoys a typical continental monsoon climate characterized by clear distinctions of four seasons. With an annual rainfall of 500-700mm, the average annual temperature is between 10 ~ 12℃, and -10 ~ -5℃ in January and 22 ~ 26℃ in July. Beijing Agriculture: Wheat, corn, beans, cotton and prolific prodution of fruits like pear, apricot, peach, apple, grape and other temperate ones are grown in outer suburbs. Beijing Industy: Beijing is one of the largest import and outport terminals and one of the largest consumption markets. It also has fast developing technology-intensive industries, such as electronics, biochemistry and new materials. Tourist Resources in Beijing: Many Places of Interest have been included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO, e.g. the Great Wall, Summer Palace, Palace Museum, Temple of Heaven, the Ming Tombs and the Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian. Beijing has a world know dish, the Roast Duck, and Beijing also have a great viarity of dim sum, which can be found in many food markets. |
