Big Chevy B Just wondering what people like to use to clean stainless with. And on the other hand is there something that I should absolutely stay away from. I don't want to stain my new piece. I've pretty much always use hopps #9 and break free powder blast in the past. #1 · Aug 28, 2012 Just wondering what people like to use to clean stainless with. Brake clean is an effective solvent for stainless. Removes everything and dries instantly leaving minimal residue. That being said, keep this off your rubber grips and painted surfaces. It will remove finishes that you might otherwise want to keep... This tidbit comes from my 27 years automotive experience, not so much my gun knowledge. #5 · Aug 30, 2012 Hoppes #9, CLP and SBGO here. #6 · Aug 30, 2012 I have never done anything different with my stainless guns. They call the stuff stainless for a reason. ;) #7 · Aug 31, 2012 I use the same stuff on stainless as I used on blued steel. For me, that's Kroil for powder/lead solvent and either Sweets7.62 or Barnes CR-10 for copper fouling. If you've got some really heavy staining, then a brake cleaner like some of the guys above have suggested will work too. Absolutely NO steel wool on stainless if you've got to do any heavy scrubbing. It will embed black steel particles into the stainless and it will rust stain on ya. Use bronze wool if you need to...besides, it's softer than steel so you won't have as much chance to damage the finish. #8 · Sep 1, 2012 thanks for the info! #9 · Sep 2, 2012 Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish at any auto store.
