As the families of Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) and Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) gathered for their wedding day, Big Bang Theory fans got a first look at their siblings and relatives. One such relative was Sheldon's older brother George Cooper Jr (Jerry O'Connell) who quickly had viewers in stitches on his first appearance in The Sibling Realignment as the self-confessed Dr Tire. George went onto appear in three episodes in the CBS sitcom but didn’t appear beyond season 12, episode four. Here’s what happened.

What happened to George Cooper Jr on Big Bang Theory?

Sheldon was rather reluctant to invite his older brother ‘Georgie’ to his and Amy’s wedding.

He told Amy his brother “tormented him his whole childhood” and he didn’t want him there on his big day.

His mother Mary (Laurie Metcalfe) had other ideas, however, and Sheldon had to visit his brother to extend the invitation.

Instantly the pair’s conflict was plain to see as Sheldon and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) arrived in Texas to invite George.

At first, George rejected Sheldon’s invitation, telling him: “I’d rather swallow a pregnant wildcat and crap out a litter of kittens!”

Leonard later went to speak with George alone to try and convince where Sheldon’s brother opened up about the resentment he holds for his sibling.

It turns out, despite owning a successful tire company, George’s mum sees Sheldon has her only success.

George revealed how he set up his entire business by working hard as every penny the family had went towards Sheldon and his studies.

The eldest Cooper also blamed Sheldon for leaving him, his mum and sister in Texas after his father died while Sheldon left to further his career.

Sheldon even admitted: “I suppose I didn’t think about who it was for everyone else.”

Sheldon apologised and the brothers made their peace, resulting in George attending the wedding.

In the season 11 finale, George attended Sheldon and Amy’s big day alongside his mum and sister Missy (Courtney Henggeler).

O’Connell only went on to make one more appearance after season 11 in episode four of the 12th season.

Leonard, Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) were trying to figure out who Sheldon’s childhood friend Tam (Robert Wu) was.

George gave the guys a helping hand in their search for Tam and this was the last Big Bang fans saw of him.

O’Connell was only ever signed up to the CBS sitcom in a “guest starring” role.

Therefore, the writers didn’t need to keep George’s storyline in the show.

After appearing on Big Bang Theory, O’Connell landed recurring roles on two of the USA’s biggest shows.

He played Steven Birch on Showtime’s Billions and the titular character in drama Carter.

The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Netflix now.
