What happens when a big city lawyer meets his old schoolmate? Well, they create a brewing company. Yup, that’s how Big Drop was born. Big Drop isn’t your typical brewery though; its creators are dedicated to creating low/no alcohol beers that are as fine as old-aged wine. If you aren’t able to handle alcohol for any reason at all, Big Drop is the godsent loophole for access to great quality, full-flavoured low/no alcohol beer. Despite the lack of alcohol, Big Drop does not lack in variety; it offers a wide range of beer styles including Stouts, Pale Ale, IPAs, Sours, and more!

If you’re looking for the finest 0.5% ABV beer, you’re in the right place. In October 2016, Rob Fink - the then-city lawyer - and his schoolmate James Kindred launched Big Drop. The two were facing drastic lifestyle changes and after realising that there was a severe lack of good alcohol-free beer options, they decided to make their own. Along with renowned experimental brewer, Johnny Clayton, they have perfected the techniques needed to create the ultimate alcohol-free beer without compromising on taste. The brewery achieves rich and intense flavours in its beers by using over 20 specialty grains, including barley, rye, wheat, and oats.

Non-alcoholic beers typically use a filtration method to remove the alcohol, but doing so results in a loss of flavour and aroma. Big Drop brews its beer traditionally, but with two key differences: less grain is used so that the yeast converts less of it to alcohol, and the yeast strain used is less efficient at the process.

Contract brewing - sharing is caring.

That’s right, Big Drop was founded on contract brewing - that means that it uses other breweries to produce its beer. In an interview with Food Navigator, Fink stated that he never wanted to build a brewery; shipping huge quantities of liquid around the world just doesn’t make sense both financially and environmentally. Instead, Big Drop simply finds outstanding breweries out there, hands over their secret recipe, and relies on them to brew the good stuff.

Inclusivity is key.

You can definitely expect a low/no alcohol brewing company to be inclusive, given that they don’t shame those who can’t partake in big alcoholic endeavours. Big Drop is all about choice. You are free to choose whether you want to drink a full strength beer or not.
