Introduction
Blake Shelton is an American professional country singer and television personality with an estimated net worth of $120 Million.
Music Career
After graduating from high school, Blake Shelton moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a music career.
In 1997, he landed a job at a music publishing company and obtained a production contract with Bobby Braddock’s help with Sony Music. Despite this, Shelton’s career wouldn’t officially start until 2001, when he signed with Giant Records and released his first single.
From Humble Beginnings
Blake Shelton was slated to release “I Wanna Talk About Me” before it was given to Toby Keith, whose version became a No. 1 hit. Ultimately, “Austin” became his debut single, but shortly after its release, Giant Records closed, and Shelton transferred to Warner Bros. Records.
Warner went on to release Shelton’s debut self-titled album, which hit No. 44 on the US Top Country Album charts and was certified platinum. Shelton’s second album, The Dreamer, was released in 2003, and its lead single, “Baby,” reached No. 1 on the US Country charts.
In 2006, several of his songs were featured in The Christmas Blessing, and Shelton made a small cameo at the end.
Hitting The Big Time
Blake Shelton released his fourth studio album, Pure BS, in 2007, which debuted at no. 2 on the US Top Country Albums chart. This album was re-released the following year, featuring a cover of Michael Bublé’s single “Home,” which became his fourth no. 1 hit.
In 2009, Shelton released a duet with Trace Adkins titled “Hillbilly Bone,” which served as the lead single of his next EP.
The following year, Shelton was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry for their Country Comes Home concert alongside Garth Brooks and Darius Rucker. A year later, he joined the NBC reality TV series The Voice cast, which made him a household name, even for non-country fans.
Everybody Knows His Name
Once he was on national TV, Blake Shelton became the country music Tom Cruise as more people learned his name. His single “Honey Bee” received 138,000 downloads in its first week and was certified gold in its seventh week. This set a record for the fastest gold certification earned by a male country singer in history, and it was also Shelton’s fastest chart-climbing song.
In 2012, Shelton took the stage with Miranda Lambert for Super Bowl XLVI, singing a duet of “America the Beautiful.” Shortly after New Year’s, in 2013, he premiered his new single, “Sure Be Cool If You Did,” followed by his eighth studio album in March.
He also received the Gene Weed Special Achievement Award at the 48th Academy of Country Music Awards for his work on The Voice. Now as wealthy as some of the richest rockstars in the world, Shelton was keen to keep making his mark on the music industry.
Honored With Awards
The next couple of years saw Blake Shelton’s fame and recognition grow exponentially as he released new music. In 2014, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and earned his fourth victory on The Voice when Craig Boyd was named the winner.
Shelton hosted the Kids’ Choice Awards in 2016 and created the theme song for The Angry Birds Movie, in which he voiced Earl, a pig. The same year, he also celebrated the opening of his exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum.
Blake joined Angelina Jolie and Beyonce in 2017 when his wax figure was unveiled at Madame Tussauds in Nashville. He was also honored at the Oklahoma Creativity Ambassadors Gala, becoming one of eight attendees to receive the Creativity Ambassador Medallion.
Enjoying Continued Success
In late 2017, Shelton partnered with Ryman Hospitality Properties to open a chain of restaurants called Ole Red. The first Ole Red opened in his hometown of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, with three more openings soon after.
In 2019, he released a compilation album titled Fully Loaded: God’s Country and a duet with his partner, Gwen Stefani, “Nobody But You.”
Shelton earned his seventh victory on The Voice the following year and his eighth shortly after in 2021. His twelfth studio album, his first in four years, was released in May 2021. It debuted at no. 3 on the US Top Country Albums chart.
In 2022, he sold his master recordings to Influence Media Partners, stipulating that he would still earn money from them.
Real Estate
In March 2020, Shelton and Gwen Stefani purchased a newly built home in Encino, California, for $13.2 million. The original 3,037-square-foot house was built in 1946 and last sold for $2.1 million in 2015 before being demolished to create a custom-spec mansion. With a lot size of 1.64 acres, the couple’s home comprises 13,000 square feet.
Philanthropy
Blake Shelton has been involved in several philanthropic activities throughout his career and is generally considered generous by his peers.
2013 was a remarkably generous year for Shelton, as he spearheaded the ‘Healing in the Heartland’ benefit concert and telethon to help those affected by the aftermath of tornadoes in Oklahoma.
Later in the year, he donated $20,000 to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and its outdoor education programs. Shelton believes life is lived better outdoors, and this was his way of helping the youth get outside again.
Shelton didn’t stop there. In 2016, he donated $600,000 to the Children’s Hospital at the Jimmy Everest Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Oklahoma University Medical Center. Shelton stated that this donation was due to the treatment his cousin’s daughter received after being diagnosed with cancer the year before. Furthermore, in 2018, Shelton set up the Blake Shelton Cancer Research Program in honor of his cousin.
Continuing in 2018, Shelton and Ryman Hospitality Property Inc. donated $50,000 of ticket sales revenue from Shelton’s restaurant and live music venue, Ole Road, to Shelton’s hometown of Tishomingo, Oklahoma, to support the community and help improve Pennigton Park.
In 2019, Shelton and Ryman Hospitality Inc. donated a further $54,214 to Gatlinburg-Pittman High School to support music education in their local community. The money was raised through auctioned ticket sales to Shleton’s private Ole Red Grand Opening concert.
The following year, Shelton was among several artists, like Billie Eilish and Barbara Streisand, who donated items and memorabilia through Julien’s Auctions to MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Most recently, in 2020, Shelton donated $150,000 to the “Give from Home Day” fundraiser, which was set up to provide relief to those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
