Boardwalk History

Since its birth as a mere 150-yard stretch of boards in the 1890s, the Wildwoods Boardwalk has always been the center of activity. Throughout the years, the Boardwalk has gone through many transformations, growing and evolving with the mood of the country and, in over one hundred years of history. The boardwalk moved closer to the ocean twice due to the changing shoreline. Today, the Wildwoods Boardwalk is one of the country’s last great seaside promenades. A carnival ride spins and glows in the evening at the Wildwoods Boardwalk.

The Wildwoods Boardwalk is open year-round, running for 24 hours on a daily basis. Individual shops, restaurants and attractions maintain their own hours and may operate seasonally.

The Wildwoods Boardwalk runs from Cresse Avenue in Wildwood Crest to 15th Avenue in North Wildwood.

3. How long is the Wildwoods Boardwalk?

The Boardwalk spans almost 2.5 miles, featuring over 70,000 wooden planks and plenty of unforgettable activities.

4. Is the Wildwoods Boardwalk free?

Visitors can park at the Wildwoods Convention Center parking lots, located at 4601 Ocean Avenue. Visitors can also utilize any privately owned parking lots that are located between Cresse Avenue and 15th Avenue or street parking or metered parking spaces.

5. Where can visitors park near the Wildwoods Boardwalk?

The Wildwoods Boardwalk parking lot is located at 4314 Boardwalk. Visitors can also park for free on the western side of New Jersey Avenue. There is additional meter parking near the beach. 

6. What is the backpack policy?

Boardwalk-goers are prohibited from bringing backpacks and bags that are more than eight inches deep, from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on a daily basis.

7. How much is the tramcar on the Boardwalk?

8. Are Pets allowed on the Boardwalk?

Pets are not allowed on the Boardwalk at any time. Pets are allowed on beaches from October to May. There are Dog Beaches at Glenwood Avenue in Wildwood and 24th Avenue in North Wildwood. Dogs must be leashed on the beach, but may be off-leash within the dog park.
