BOGUS or Facsimile [It's Not Real] You can tell Fake Paper Money by the Serial Number Check your notes against this list before writing. If your note matches a listed serial number it will be FAKE and has No Collector Value. These items have all been produced since the turn of the century. Most produced up to around 1945 were used for advertising on one side and it's easy to tell that it's not real. The Bogus Notes listed below were first produced around 1948 at the end of World War II when Americans started taking vacations and there were even greater numbers made from 1960-1965 for the WAR Centennial. [Civil War to you Yankees] If you go to any of the National Parks and many State Parks you can still buy examples of these in the gift shops. Some you can purchase today are exactly like those first made over 50 years ago. While I have listed every piece I've seen or been told about over the past five years, new examples surface from time to time. If you run across one, please email me the date and serial number. I would also like an image. Your name will also be added to my list of Contributors to this page! Thank You! Col Crutch Williams CSA Added Better Image of a Bogus BN66 sent from Germany on this date! July 1, 2022 Updated Site with New Addition to Nebraska December 14, 2024 Dane Courney suggested that I add the following comment for novice Collectors of CSA, Republic of Texas and other Obsolete Notes on 18 July 2017 . He said, "Look at your note with a magnifying glass. If you see a lot of dots, the note is a fake. The dots are produced by halftone printing. No real Confederate note was ever printed using this method" Republic of Texas Confederate/CSA Fantasy CSAState Obsoletes Colonial/Continental Contributors Ronnie Remonda Collects Modern Reproductions of Confederate Currency Click Here to read what he has to say and contact him for a copy of his E-Book Please Note: Since serial numbers are most often handwritten, it is sometimes hard to read them and people reporting them make mistakes. So I have listed both numbers. It's obviously one or the other. There is also a REAL note somewhere out there for each of these too. Someone had to have the real note to make the copy from it. A ? means unsure of digit. If you have any other information regarding one of these reported serial numbers such as DATE or TYPE please forward that too.
