As first reported by Jeff Agrest of the Chicago Sun-Times, Marquee Sports Network has signed Jon “Boog” Sciambi and Jim Deshaies to multiyear extensions. They will be entering their second season together after first being paired when Sciambi took over for Len Kasper, who headed to the other side of town to call the White Sox on the radio.

Deshaies has been in the Cubs booth for nine years and rumors had swirled about him potentially being replaced, but those have thankfully not come to pass. That’s not to say others won’t continue to share time or stand in for either broadcaster at various points. Sciambi will continue to serve in his capacity as play-by-play man for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball radio call, and Marquee will announce fill-ins at some point in the future.

Pat Hughes was among several who stepped in from time to time last season, so expect him to pinch-hit again in 2022 as the need arises. Ryan Dempster will no doubt make his fair share of appearances as well, with Beth Mowins likely taking the reins with relative frequency.

Boog and JD seemed to have established a really good vibe as the season went along, playing off of one another nicely with their varying levels of deadpan. Between Boog’s sneaker fetish and JD’s funky glasses, it was certainly one of the more stylish booths in the game.

This is a welcome nugget of good news and provides a bit of continuity for an organization that has seen big shifts over the last year in other areas.
