ADD TO GOODREADS:

Emery Jung is living his dream. Known by his stage name M, he is loved by millions of fans around the world as a member of the rising K-pop group NEON, but all fame comes with a cost, especially when one slip up can have viral consequences.
Alana Kim is trying to forget. After a tragic loss sends her spiraling, she escapes to her family in Korea, abandoning her love of music along the way. However, her plans are derailed when she literally runs into M, the famous K-pop idol.
When their paths collide, Emery and Alana must work together to prevent a scandal from ruining NEON’s success, sparking a journey of friendship, love, and healing. Unfortunately, fame and love aren’t easily compatible, especially in the world of K-pop.

I received a digital copy of this book from the authors. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Have you ever thought of dating an idol or celebrity that you love? Every fangirl and fanboy would definitely dream of it. If you did so, Comeback: A Kpop Novel will be a great read for you. It is a story of finding love and friendship amidst the loud, spotlight of the K-pop World.
I am more of a K-drama fan than a K-pop fan. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading Comeback: A Kpop Novel. The story follows the two main characters, Emery “M” Jung, a K-pop member of the famous boyband NEON, and Alana Kim, a Korean-American girl who has a sorrowful past. Both Emery and Alana both have problems that they keep dealing with themselves. When fate unites them once again, unexpected feelings and emotions blossoms between them. However, will their love be enough to overcome the difficulties they need to face?
It seems that the story is quite simple at first. However, it also tackles difficult issues such as depression, grief, and strict rules and regulations of being a K-pop idol. I already heard and watch videos regarding the later topic and Comeback makes a clear picture of what might be really happening in the K-pop scene. Moreover, the story is told by the POVs of the two main characters, which allows readers to understand the internal struggle that they are facing. Although the authors did a solid concept of the group NEON and GLO, it is quite difficult to imagine that this is actually happening in Seoul because the description of the city isn’t detailed. Two of the best things in South Korea are beautiful places and food, but there isn’t much in this novel. It feels that it would feel more authentic if those things were mentioned. Lastly, there are times that the pacing becomes too slow because there is a lot of telling.
I didn’t connect to any characters, but this novel has a lot of other interesting characters. I really love the bromance between the members of NEON, and I enjoyed the scenes where the sassy Stephanie is included.
Overall, I did enjoy reading this novel in spite of issues. Comeback: A Kpop Novel is for people who love to know more about the K-pop world. This is a cute, contemporary read!
3.75 stars!

Lyn likes to think of herself as an incorrigible wanderer—through cities, cultures, and stories. After acquiring her degrees, traveling from place to place, and eavesdropping on random strangers with her hard-won language skills, she finally made the somewhat irrational decision to move to Korea to work as a writer and editor, because apparently she didn’t get enough of that in grad school.
When not trapped in her own mindscape, Lyn can be found queuing for concerts, hunting down the best chocolate ice cream in Seoul, or hiding in her tiny apartment streaming music videos because it’s too “peopley” outside.
Rachel has studied and worked across Asia, jumping from Taiwan to China, and then onto Korea where she currently resides. Her Instagram is almost entirely about food, and she annoyingly insists that the camera must always eat first. Her favorite K-drama tropes include contract relationships and drunken piggyback rides, although she’d hate for them to actually happen to her in real life. For more than 25 years, Rachel assumed she was exclusively a cat person until her parents adopted Ted, the Pomeranian who doesn’t know he’s a Pomeranian. Her life has never been the same since.
