What has two arms, is totally comfy and cozy, and is an absolute must-have for every new baby? Well, aside from you, of course, it’s the Boppy Pillow. The Boppy is a specially-designed pillow that is great for positioning your baby for feedings, tummy time, and more and it’s on Truly Mama’s list for one of the most versatile baby products around.

The Boppy Pillow is great for:

  • Breastfeeding positioning
  • Feeding support
  • Tummy time

Product Overview

There are actually two versions of the Boppy Pillow: the original Boppy Pillow and the Boppy newborn lounger. The Pillow is a semi-circle with “arms” and is open in the center, so it’s perfect for wrapping around your body for feeding, or using to prop your baby up (while supervised, of course).

The Boppy lounger, on the other hand, is a full pillow without arms and does not have an open middle and is used only as a supervised lounger for your baby. If you were to get only one product, I’d definitely recommend the Boppy pillow because it’s much more versatile.

Features and Specs

Obviously, as a pillow, the Boppy is a pretty straightforward and simple product, but here are some of the features you need to know.

Both the Boppy pillow and lounger come with two pieces: the internal pillow part and a removable Boppy pillow cover. The Boppy cover is zippable, so it’s super-easy to remove and you can just throw it in the washing machine to clean it. Having a removable, machine-washable cover is crucial, because when you’re using the Boppy for feeding support and positioning, you’re bound to see some messes. (You can also throw the entire pillow in the washing machine and dryer if things get super serious.)

The removable cover also comes in handy if you have multiple children, or just want to switch up the “look” of your pillow. For instance, I had a pink Boppy cover for my first two babies, who were both girls, but then was able to buy a new cover for my son when he was born. And when my last baby was born after a 5-year gap between kiddos, I bought another new cover to freshen up the pillow.

The pillow itself measures 20 inches long, is 16 inches wide, and is 5.5 inches tall. It is pretty big, but soft and pliable for transport.

Experience Using the Product

I can’t say enough good things about my Boppy, truly. It’s the one product I recommend to all new moms, regardless of their feeding plans. I loved my Boppy so much with my first baby that I actually took it to the hospital with all of my other babies so I had it right from the get-go for feeding. Aside from my glasses, it was actually the main item I considered a must-have for any unexpected hospital visit.

Having used it myself for both breastfeeding and bottle feeding, I can attest to the fact that the Boppy pillow is perfect for feeding support for all babies. I used it underneath my baby to get my baby in the right position for nursing for the first several months, and for up to around 8 months to keep my baby upright for bottle-feeding when she suffered from colic and reflux.

During the early months, I also frequently used the Boppy for propping baby up on their back so they could “sit up” a bit while we talked and played. It put my baby at the perfect height and felt very comfortable for them.

I also love the Boppy for those first months when baby is learning to sit up on their own. I would sit on the floor with my baby and place the Boppy behind them, wrapping the “arms” around their back/bottom so it served as a nice little cushion to help keep them upright. You can also use the Boppy for supervised tummy time.

And pro tip: the Boppy makes the absolute perfect laptop pillow when you’re done with the baby stage. My youngest is just approaching one years old, so I’ve repurposed my Boppy and continue to use it daily when I’m working on my laptop. Or, if you’re a traveler, you could definitely use it as a neck pillow too.

Why We Love It

We love the Boppy Pillow because it’s the perfect support for both mom and baby for feeding, positioning, and more. It’s totally customizable, with tons of pillow cover designs, and has a removable, machine-washable cover, and will last you through several babies (if that’s in your plans, of course.)

Who Should Get This

Truthfully, I consider the Boppy pillow a must-have for all moms. It’s essential if you’re breastfeeding, incredibly useful if you’re formula-feeding, and it’s especially helpful if you have a small baby or a preemie. The Boppy can be used for positioning and supervised tummy time, and when your little one is grown, it still makes a great pillow for Mom.

Truly-Mama Recommended

The Boppy Pillow is 100% Truly-Mama recommended. If you don’t have the Boppy yet, definitely add it to your registry or order one yourself. You won’t regret it.
