Bridgerton: How Old Are The Characters Supposed To Be?

The third season of Bridgerton is finally on Netflix, and we've got a whole load of questions that need answering. Where was it filmed? What happened behind-the-scenes? How old are the cast and characters supposed to be?

The hotly anticipated third season sees long time friends and neighbours Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) get their love story. But will misunderstandings, meddling from other members of the ton and the ever present question of Lady Whistledown's identity ruin their chance at a happy ending?

While we can't answer that, we can tell you what the ages of Penelope and Colin and the other Bridgerton characters are. Here's a run down of what you need to know, with many of the details revealed in Julia Quinn's 2002 novel Romancing Mr Bridgerton, which Bridgerton season three is based on.

What are the ages of the Bridgerton characters?

Penelope Featherington age

Our leading lady for season three Penelope Featherington is 19 years old and is worrying about her position in the marriage mart, having been in society for three years and is now worried about being a spinster at 19. In the first season she's 17 years old and in the second she's 18 years old.

Interestingly in the novel Romancing Mr Bridgerton Penelope is 28 years old. In the series she's played by Derry Girls actress Nicola Coughlan, who is 37.

Colin Bridgerton age

Penelope's love interest is of course Colin Bridgerton, who is 24 in the series - making him five years older than Penelope. In the novel he is 33 years old. He is played by 31-year-old Luke Newton.

Kate Bridgerton age

When we first meet Kate she's is in her late twenties, and is often referred to as a a "spinster" due to the fact she's not yet married. Eek. However, by season three she is happily married to Anthony and is 27 years old. Simone Ashley, who takes on the role, is 29 years old.

Anthony Bridgerton age

At the beginning of Bridgerton, we learn that Daphne's brother Anthony is 29, a good few years older than his sister and a similar age to university friend The Duke. So by season three Anthony is 31. Anthony is played by 36-year-old Jonathan Bailey.

Daphne Bridgerton age

In the book, which season one is based on, Daphne is 21 years old and so if she were to appear in season three Daphne would be 23 years old. Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne, was born in April 1995 so is 29 in real life.

The Duke of Hastings age

We know that Simon Basset aka The Duke went to university with Daphne's brother Anthony, so is a few years older than her and was 29 in the first season, and so by season three he'd be 31. While actor Regé-Jean Page was born in 1988 so is 36 in real life.

Benedict Bridgerton age

The middle of the Bridgerton brothers, Benedict is a few years younger than his brother Anthony, making him 29. He's played by Luke Thompson, who was born in 1988, making him 35.

Eloise Bridgerton age

Eloise, Daphne's younger sister, is 17 in the first series of the show, making her four years younger than her sister and so she's 19 in season three. The actress that plays her, Claudia Jessie, is 34 in real life (she was born in October 1989) making her 15 years older than the character she plays.

Francesca Bridgerton age

The next Bridgerton sibling is Francesca who makes her debut in society this season and she is 18 years old.

Following Ruby Stokes departure from the series following season two, Francesca is now played by Hannah Dodds who is 29 years old.

Gregory Bridgerton age

The next of the Bridgerton siblings is Gregory who begins the first season of Bridgerton at 12 years old and now he'll be 14 for season three. He's played by Will Tilston who is 17 years old.

Hyacinth Bridgerton age

The youngest of the Bridgertons is Hyacinth who is 12 years old in season three, having begun the show at 10 years old. She's played by Florence Hunt who is 17 years old.

Madame Delacroix age

Madame Delacroix aka Genevieve had a fairly frequent role in the second season of Bridgerton, thanks to her unlikely alliance with Penelope Featherington and this continues in season three. Played by Kathryn Drysdale, it's unclear how old the famed dressmaker Madame Delacroix is meant to be in the show. But irl? She's 42!
