Buc-ee’s to break ground on fourth Alabama location in November

Just days after breaking ground on its third Alabama location, Buc-ee’s is preparing to start work on a fourth store.

The City of Athens announced today a groundbreaking event on Nov. 17 for the Athens Buc-ee’s site on Interstate 65, at the southeast corner at Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road.

“We look forward to kicking off this important project for Athens,” said Mayor Ronnie Marks. “We expect to see other opportunities develop in this area.”

Buc-ee’s Auburn broke ground on Wednesday. That store will occupy more than 53,470 square feet with 120 fueling positions, and hire at least 175.

The Athens store has been in the planning for more than a year.

The Texas-based, Texas-sized convenience store is expanding throughout the South, with locations in Baldwin County and Leeds, and one planned for Athens. The Mississippi Gulf Coast is being considered, and one just opened in Calhoun, Ga., about 40 miles from the Alabama stateline, east of Rome. Buc-ee’s has another store in Warner Robins.

This summer, the chain also announced a new store in Sevierville, Tenn. that, when completed, will be the world’s largest convenience store, with 74,000-square-feet. That will break the record held by the Buc-ee’s in New Braunfels, Texas, at 66,335 square feet.

Each store features Buc-ee’s mainstays, including Texas barbeque, in-house roasted nuts, homemade fudge, Beaver nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries.
