Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said he has a close enough relationship with Drew Brees that he can kid him about what might otherwise be a sore subject: His height.

"I've grown that relationship to where I can say he's 5-foot-2, and he don't take it personally," McCoy said during a live interview on the Buccaneers web site Wednesday night.

McCoy said he and Brees have worked out together in the offseason often enough so that he can make a joke at Brees' expense.

"I can say that because Drew and I are actually friends," McCoy said. "I kid him about being a short guy. He won't take it personally. Drew Brees is really 5-10, 6-foot."

The New Orleans Saints list Brees as 6-foot.

"When I'm around him, when we're training, he doesn't always know it but I'm watching his every move," said McCoy, who will see Brees when the Bucs and Saints play Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

"Everything he does is related to football. With his warmup, he has a ball in his hands. Everything is about his footwork, his eyes. Any drill he does, there's a fake throw at the end or he has a football or something. And he works smart. Not necessarily overly hard, but when he goes, he goes. He's probably one of the most -- if not the most -- in-shape quarterbacks in the league. I can almost guarantee it."

McCoy said the Saints without Jimmy Graham are missing "a huge part of that team, (and) as long as No. 9 is there, they got a shot. Him and Sean Payton, put them together, they always have a shot."

McCoy also complimented Mark Ingram as a physical yet nimble runner. "He's got an extremely good stiff arm that I don't think a lot of people realize," McCoy said.

And they have a quarterback whose height is one of many ways to measure him.

"When he's in between those white lines, he's 8 feet tall," McCoy said. "So it doesn't matter," he said about Brees' height.
