It's been a year since Buddy "Cake Boss" Valastro injured his dominant hand in a freak bowling accident at his home. Since then, he's been sharing his healing process on social media, and after several surgeries he is back to nearly 100 percent hand capability.

In September of 2020, Buddy was bowling at his New Jersey home with his family when he tried to manually fix a malfunction with the pinsetter. (Are you cowering with anxiety yet?) During his attempt, his right hand was impaled multiple times, which landed him in the hospital for surgery. By February 2021, he had completed five surgeries to fix his injuries. "I couldn't make a fist until the middle of February," Buddy explained during a recent interview with TODAY.

He was set to compete in his show Buddy vs. Duff in April, and was determined to start filming on time even if he was not completely healed yet. Buddy said at this point he has about 95 percent of his hand's mobility back but it was the uncertainty in the hospital during his initial visit that shook him up the most.

"I really had no idea what I was going to get back to. At that point I don't think the doctor even knew. It was really scary, because that's part of me I call my inner child," he said. "When I think about Cake Boss or I think about these cakes I make, I think anything in the world is possible, and then I go and make it happen with my hands. I felt like part of that might not ever be there again."
