"Immortality" tells the story of Dan Hwal (Lee Jin-Uk) and Min Sang-Un (Kwon Na-Ra).
Dan Hwal was a human 600 years ago. While he was carrying out his mission as a military officer to erase the remnants of the former dynasty, he became immortal. He has been immortal for the past 600 years.
Min Sang-Un used to be immortal. She is now reincarnated into a human being and lives as a human. After she went through a tragic event, she changed her name and identity. She lives in hiding and looks to exact revenge.
Ok Eul-Tae (Lee Joon) is immortal. Unlike Dan-Hwal, he enjoys his immortality, as well as power and wealth.
In the past, Dan Sol (Gong Seung-Yeon) used to be Dan Hwal ’s wife. She has something special.

My only complaint is having Lee Jin Wook and Kwon Nara not sharing even a single kiss. What a waste of a one of a kind chemistry.
Oct 04 2024 4:55 am I been seeing this for a year and this time decided to watch it .i was mesmerized by the story it was really worth watching..but one thats annoying is the lady bulgasal. She did took Hwals soul after stabbing him but seems like showed that she didnt did anything wrong to Hwal..plus i am super annoyed in her acting like doing everything to get close to Hwal pretending to be genuinely kind just to make him want her until she win and got a chance to have him embrace her lol.. i was waiting for his wife to remember that she was the wife 600 years ago. reuniting with the son thats shed me a lot of tears..

After every episode ended it made me want to watch the next one asap and before I knew it, binged it over one weekend. The whole truth was just sad and tragic. Kudos to the team. Kwon Nara was such a scene stealer everytime
Nov 08 2023 8:05 am Bulgasal is actually such an underrated masterpiece, y'all. This series deserved a lot of hype back then, but sadly didn’t get. Most of all, Lee Jin Wook and Kwon Nara chemistry, chefs kiss, even though their love story was tragic.
Oct 16 2023 10:20 pm At the start of Bulgasal Ep5, when Hwal caresses and then moves on to attempt to strangle Min Sang Un, there was so much going on: the conflict between gratitude when Bulgasal saved him, and betrayal when she killed his family. To me, that scene was well done.

Sep 06 2023 10:13 am The insane amount of plot conveniences ruined the drama and killed even the slightest potential it might had which made the writing seems abysmal. Not only it was stupid with every step along the way but it also removed the tension with any serious scene. Moreover, we were over fed the same repeated information like babies. Even if we were to disregard all of that, the pacing was terrible with a big empty gap of nothingness in the middle parts. None of the side cast were interesting enough to make the middle parts worthwhile. Aside from the first episode, there wasn't much appeal left.

After a good start with the first 3 episodes, then a boring, slow story, full of confusion, repetitions, and indecisions. It seemed to me that you Jang Young Woo had more fun deceiving viewers than entertaining them. How boring the 2 main characters discussing for 14 episodes which of the two should sacrifice themselves. Omg ! You used more then 17 houres to show a content of 2 houres. One of the worst Korean TV-Serie seen to date. What a pity for the actors who will probably be bored too.
Apr 26 2023 9:56 am This was such a masterpiece. The cinematography, plot, acting and OSTs were consistently amazing. There was almost nothing i could find fault with this drama other than the fact that i needed more of Hwal and Sang Un. Honestly people, watch this drama you wont regret it. Kwon Nara's best acting performance so far. Lee Jin Uk is amazing as usual. The supporting casts were alsp top notch actresses and each of them had meaningful and deep backstories. Last thing to note is that this drama has my top 3 most heartwrenching scenes [and i have watched a lot of really tragic kdramas]

Lee Jin Uk, a great actor, goodlooking and charismatic, first time i saw his acting and fell in love with him. The female lead Kwon Na Ra, outstanding this actress. If you love a fantasy story, you should definitely watch this drama.

Jan 29 2023 9:19 pm Bulgasal got me so obsessed. I’m a bit late but I’m so glad I watched this series. I’m reading the threads in twitter by the people who watched it while it was ongoing, and it’s so much fun. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who was pulling my hair out overthinking about what the whole backstory was all about. No one, Not Anyone thought that it was Hwal himself who put the curse on his own fam's past lives & how everything came in a circle. I’m so glad Hwal finally learned his lesson in the end and apologized to Sang-un. He finally understood why she decided to kill them both back then. Drama is super highly recommended. Found a new gem, Kwon Nara. Hope her next project is just as great as Bulgasal if not better.

I just couldn't finish it because some episodes were just about the female lead running away because she was chased by a bulgasal. Then another bulgasal chased the bulgasal, then they had a fight....repeat. Sorry, too boring for me.

You would feel a lot of different emotions & it was truly a journey. Hoping for Season 2. I became Kwon Nara’s fan after watching her performance here.

By the way, has anyone else ever noticed wherever Sangwoon and Hwal are having a moment whether be menacing, cute or sweet there is always a shining light of some sort in the background? I like the symbolism of it. Still shipping SangHwal, the ultimate soulmates, twin flames. I hope to see them Lee Jin Wook and Kwon Nara team up again in another project. Their chemistry is amazing, and the tension was to die for.

Dec 05 2022 7:30 am Bulgasal, a drama that exceeded my expectations. Full of plot twists, it keeps you guessing who is the real villain and whose karma is unfolding. It was really an amazing one. It made me cry, my mental and emotional health was f*cked up. Happy ending that SangHwal reincarnated and met again. But sad that with Kwon Nara and Lee Jinuk's chemistry, there's not even a kiss scene after all that tension build-up. But it doesn't even matter because we can all feel the love and care they had for each other, despite it. This will always have a special place in my heart :) Thank you to the Bulgasal team for making this drama happen, you all did really really well.

Nov 04 2022 9:32 pm I love how the story started and ended . Among all the dark fantasy kdramas, this one had a theme and solid plot line that made sense. I think I'm really into these stories of eternal love, misunderstandings and longing.
I can't think of any other actress that could pull off the looks of a Bulgasal like Kwon Nara did. Her delivery of a damsel in distress was also just right, not hateful like other fantasy female heroines. She was actually too courageous and too selfless to a fault. She was too beautiful for a monster.
Oct 05 2022 1:05 am Bulgasal is a pair and the pair is SangHwal ? 1000 years ago Hwal told Sang-un that he will find her and says you're mine, and for 600 years he kept looking for her. He just couldn't stop loving her even though he had no memories of her, which was why he felt even more guilty for his "family". The cinematic poetry here is unbeatable. Epic love story.
Sep 04 2022 8:18 am Bulgasal deserves more recognition!! The whole storyline was so well-directed with lots of plot twists. Kept me on the edge of my seat every episode. The cinematography was breathtaking. The acting was top-notch especially of Kwon Nara who played 3 characters with a million conflicting emotions. Min Sang-Un is the best. She was just like a well that kept on giving, my heart ached for her the whole time. In the kdrama world full of unrealistic “bad-ass” heroines, she was a breath of fresh air. She always looks at the good in every person and stays positive even in the more dire situation. A character so fragile yet with so much fortitude, full of hope and love. No wonder Hwal fell in love with her all over again.
Sep 04 2022 6:10 am The first episodes were so heavy, I literally couldn't watch more than an episode a day. The beginning of the adult days was also quite boring, at least until Hwal met Sol again. I was actually rooting for them, despite the feeling he had for her was only a sorry for because of him she had bad fate. Sol (Siho) was my favorite character. She's a remarkable person in each and every of her life. While Sangun is a bit ...idk, annoying cuz she always wants to do something, but can't do things by herself so she keeps on dragging other people into troubles. Hahaha But as the history kept unfolding, things started to make sense. It wasn't boring at all. I like it.

Aside from the mystery of what happened in the past, the hope of seeing Dan Hwal and Min Sang-Un Finally together was the light at the end. That romance and heart flutter moments were some of the best scenes in my opinion.
Aug 25 2022 1:38 pm If the first part of the drama is quite terrifying and captivating, the second part, unfortunately, dark in the marshmallow and the situations are similar. The whole loses its power, which is a great pity in view of the potential present at the beginning of the Drama.
We are relieved that the end arrives so much the situation became tense and stifling and if the plot lost a lot of its breath during the episodes, we remain mixed in front of the potential poorly exploited of this series that would have deserved to keep its main line of conduct, and it’s a shame.

( I don't mean romantically) . I just wish we had more of how hwal and Sang min felt forceach other 1000 years ago. It felt incomplete.

Jun 17 2022 9:01 am Omg this was absolutely amazing. What a beautiful story acting cinematography. I had tears at the finale. Literally one of the best fantasy shows I've seen. I was totally engrossed in the storyline. Really original. Considering my fav films are Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogy...I have high standards when it comes to fantasy shows. Now Bulgasal is over ..I need to take a deep breath and think what to do with myself.

Even without a kiss scene, I felt the love, care, and forgiveness. Hope Nara and Jinuk reunite again another project. Gonna miss this drama and the cast!

May 18 2022 6:27 am I never rate or write reviews for any dramas, but this time is an exception. The plotline is exceptionally great alongside the enemies to lovers and family found tropes Bulgasal included within the series. Not to forget such breathtaking shots and cinematography that really brought us to wander to thousand and hundred years ago. I am beyond excited about every plot twist Bulgasal serves us every weekend. This is by far the best tear-jerking, heartbreaking, beautiful drama I have watched. I am really grateful to the director and the staff for choosing these amazing actors and actresses to star in Bulgasal, whether it be main casts or side characters. Monsters and side characters are very well portrayed in the drama, Kwon Nara and Lee Jin Wook's chemistry is portrayed beautifully on and off set. Bringing these two alongside Lee Joon, Gong Seung Yeon, and Kim Woo Seok together in a new rom-com drama would be highly appreciated. We need to see more of SangHwal couple!! <3

The range of emotions eminating from the lead actors and actresses really brought across the bonds they each had achieved by the end of the series. I was sad to see it end, as you really got to love the main characters. Impressive show, highly recommend it!
Apr 11 2022 7:49 am Spoilers. this drama was a banger. finished it in 3 days. was at the edge of my seat. i reccomend this to anyone who loves a story where the viewers have questions throghout the show and when it ends everything finally makes sense. the lead's chemistry is something else and the osts are just...wow. that song Leave by 4men is just so incredible spoilers for those asking how come Hwal reincarnated since bulgasal cant reincarnate. here is what i think. i remember someone saying bulgasals have no human emotions. Hwal even said that he cant cry at some point. i think it was when Ms Lee died. 1000 yrs ago, when Sang Un was bulgasal, she cried when Siho and Dohyun were being killed and she was surprised by her own tears. Before Hwal died, he also cried. i think his tears indicate human emotions and allowed him to reincarnate since humans have souls. i think he got a soul by having human emotions.

Mar 24 2022 7:12 am Plot: 5/10 (they botched up the ending, dragged out too long, started out good, too many plotholes, overall pretty anti-climactic ending) Music: 4/10 (easily forgettable, has Goblin-vibes but overall fails to capture and make its own essence) Characters: 3/10 (the characters are basically singular-personality people and they feel so one-dimensional and static that there is little-to-no development at all, kind of like the NPCs in some video games, heck, even Red Dead Redemption 2 has better characters than this (not even the main characters, just the random citizens of the game) Overall: 4/10, the k-drama started out good, it gave pretty big expectations, unfortunately, the past background of the characters were too "complicated" in a way that they make almost no sense at all, the pacing is bad, too many plotholes, failed to meet expectations. There were scenes that you want to see but they never make or bring and that brings out a lot of disappointment. Overall, not recommended.

Mar 13 2022 6:27 pm Ok I am on episode 10. I really enjoyed the series especially at the beginning. Now I'm just like, meh. It is mostly Sang-un's character isn't doing anything for me. I really liked her in Itaweon Class, but her character is starting to drag. Her righteousness is irritating because it isn't really catching me instead it aggravated me. All the other characters are great. I always liked Lee Jin Wook but Lee Joon is carrying the whole series for me. LJW's character is totally believable but LJ is doing an fantastic job with his character. He's such a dynamic actor.

But Lee Joon stole every scene, what a great performance! For me this drama started out slow and bloody, yuk. It picked up up however and got real interesting as the characters’ history and relationships were slowly revealed. Lots of reincarnations. Me, always pulling for (ML’s) Hwal and Sang-Un to be happy together with the rest of their family. Well —watch and see what happens with this roller coaster, hold your breath, story! I will say —— SPOILER ——-it has a happy ending. Bravo to the writers, directors, editors, and of course the great cast!

He's just trying to save her.
i think it is possible for bulgasal to be reincarnated, other monsters don't have a soul too but they were reincarnated, maybe Hwal and Sangwoon didn't know this since none of them died as bulgasal.

If there is no romance then there is no Bulgasal. I'm glad I watched it, Sangwoon and Hwal lovestory is something that should be written in the history books.

I watched full drama without skipping that's why I found this drama more interesting. I didn't find anything unusual and unnecessary scenes. Everything was perfect. I liked this kind of drama. It was very different. Specially the story 1000 years ago. It was perfectly explained.

Performance wise, for me, everyone did an amazing job.
I just find what happened between the 2 original Bulgasals 1000 years ago sad and painful though. Sure, there were a lot of sad scenes and happenings, but what happened to them 1000 years ago leaves a lingering feeling.

I like this kind of story, Bulgasal has a good story although a little slow at times. But LJ Came Out and Boom!! He's the kind of villain that you will not hate but understand and like in the end. He steal all the spotlight, The Charisma, the gaze, the voice, the evil side, his fantastic wardrobe! He can be super cute, super soft, super evil at the same time, his role is magnificent! Like he act in double characters... His acting is incredible! He nailed it! The lead role Jin Wook is also great but his character does not give much emotion. Thanks to Lee joon he really saved the drama.
Congratulations to the cast and crew! Good story, great cast and director! I recommend you guys to watch and enjoy the series. Cheer!!!

Feb 18 2022 5:33 pm This is one of the most disappointing dramas ever. It sucks that so much time and money went into such a poorly written story. You could literally just watch the first and last episode and know the whole story. The in between episodes are all just fillers that constantly have the same plot, "I want revenge for what happened 600 years ago but I won't kill you yet cause there's something I don't know from our life 1,000 years ago." All 14 episodes in between you are literally just waiting for them to give you some background context on what happened 1,000 years ago to justify such blinding revenge. All of that is told in the last episode which is dumb.
The story itself had so much potiential with the countless demons and past lives that could've had more backstory and presence to add more to the main story with twist and turns but no.
Don't waste your time on this. If you really wanna watch it though, all you need is the first and last episode and that is literally the whole story. No shade on the actors, they were amazing, it's the story itself that was lacking.

Feb 15 2022 7:53 pm I think the drama is fantastic. I love the dark, fantasy, mythical, immortal, reincarnation themes. Kudos to the writers for the brainiac and creative storyline. I value the confusing and unpredictable plot a lot. This is the first time that a drama made me write down all the questions I got while watching the show to ease up my mind a little bit. xD So this drama is definitely recommended for those who love complicated and heavy storylines.
I also adore how they don't force the romance between the main characters. There's no unnecessary kissing and the lovey-dovey scene at all. But we can still feel their deep love for each other. I don't understand why people said they got no chemistry. This couple literally has been together since 1000+ years ago!! ><
All actors really did their jobs excellently. Lee Jinuk is unarguably one of the best actors. Kwon Nara definitely improved a lot T^T still remember her crying scenes on the last ep, I don't know where she is hurting but I felt her pain. Lee Joon; Ok Eultae our best villain that took the soft spot in my heart. He brought his character very nicely. I can't hate his character at all, as he's also a victim :'( I will look forward to their next projects!
Overall, outstanding storyline, unpredictable heavy plot (which I love), balanced themes (includes slice of life, family, friends), incredible acting, and Top Notch Cinematography! The only minus point is Min Sangwoon's wardrobe. XD
Anyway, am I the only one who thinks Bulgasal Hwal 1000 years ago is hotter than Dan Hwal 600 years and present day's Dan Hwal? Hahah.

This is the only drama that brings tears to me like a river. I literally cannot move on from some scenes which shows how big an impact it is to me. I didn't expect it to be this sad :(
My fav actor of all time, Lee Jin-Wook my love always gives an outstanding performance in whatever he does. Shout out to other casts too especially Kwon Nara, Kim Woo-Seok, Park Myung-Shin and Gong Seung-Yeon. They managed to make me feel attached to their characters.
This drama is definitely heavy and intense even from the beginning which makes me question a lot. Even though there are some plot holes however the storyline, the cinematography, the OSTs, the acting everything is perfect. It is really a sad but beautiful story <3.
If there is a sequel, I will definitely watch it. Please watch this guys, you will not regret it if you like this kind of genre. Last but not least, Dan Hwal, you will be missed.

If only i could be one of the character in this story, i would definitely choose to be someone that unconditionally on Eul Tae side, protecting him like Hwal protecting Sang Un. Lots of unnecessary scenes and dialogue. But it’s still one of the best show of this year. You don’t get to see this kind of genre often. KNR akd GSY acting here is impeccable. They brought me to tears with their realistic acting. KWS acting is commendable too considering this is his debut drama. Overall this drama has astounding plot, acting and cinematography. 9/10 recommendable

That said, Lee Jin Wook remains one of my best actors and he did his role justice. I'm in episode 15, I'm so reluctant to finish this drama but also scared the ending would ruin the experience.
Writers please do better. We keep waiting for explanation of the whole story till the final scene. No difference between us and the characters. At least give us some insight so we know somethings the characters don't know. Hence heightening our enjoyment. But we remain clueless and confused like the characters until the very end.

His character has many layers. Lee Jin Wook great acting with a character that has layers over 1000 years. It's funny detective character was annoying 1000 years and in present day LOL.
SPOILER: My summary is that the soul can change with willpower. Like Lee Hye-Seok. The person who helped kill Hwal 600 years became his true family today. The sad end of this story is all the human fault or the fault is with wanting to be human.
Abandoned son Ok Eul-Tae wanted immortality. Bulgalsal lived in the mountains and didn't kills anyone until Min Sang Un abandoned Hwal to care for humans. The same humans killed her, she called Hwal with her eyes and Hwal gets his revenge. Its stupid she sacrifice her own kind for people who hate her kind.
Please give us a sequel Director-nim

And all these people kept coming back as the same person again and again and not a tree or something, maybe because of the curse? I was just pointing out that in the universe they were trying to create in this series, there seems to be some inconsistencies . At least it seems that way to me. Still I enjoyed it, but it left me with several questions that I thought would be answered in the end, but were not. I would have preferred that they were.

Why does Hwal Reincarnated? He wasn't supposed to be reincarnated. He already said so on his dying moment that bulgasal won't be reincarnated . This probably their "God's Gift" to meet again as a normal soul.
In my opinion, Min Sang Un also wasnt supposed to be reincarnated since her sister (Min Sang Yeon) said it is her last time she can be reincarnated. (this probably the same for Min Sang Un)

We enjoy watching every scene, all of the actors have their own charm, interesting story need to follow and keep looking forward to. Despite there is no kiss scene but the chemistry of the lead are off the chart. They portray their roles so well despite their roles are so hard to play. Hope Lee Jinuk and Kwon Nara are giving a chance to pair up again in the future. Same as Gong Seuongyeon and Lee Joon; hopefully they can be paired in another drama cos their chemistry is sooo good.

The soul is the atma (self). The soul/atma is described in vedanta sutra and bhagavat puranas as the thing that transmigrates along with 3 other material layers enveloping it, namely mind, intelligence and ego. It also says the soul/atma is imperishable, immutable and can't cut, burned, or withered by the wind. That is to say the soul/atma is indestructible.
Had they premised the storyline on top of that fundamental knowledge, there'd be less confusion. And a better story bc the ideas would have been much broader in scope. Like; one is not born into the same gender or species necessarily. The determinant is the shape of ones desires and actions in their previous life. If one do not utilise the human's propensity for higher pursuit, nature provides them with a non-human form.

Hwal, took Eul-taes soul 1000 years ago, made Eul tae bulgasal and Hwal died as a human and reincarnatedfor400 years. Then Sang un took that soul from Hwal. They never say why. Which made her a reincarnating human and turned Hwal back into Bulgasal. So now, Sang un has Eul taes soul. Hwal and Eul Tae are Bulgasal. In the end, the mystic said something about the soul going back to its owner, that would be Eul Tae, so you think, somehow, Sang Un is going to give the soul she has back to him and her and Hwal will go back to being Bulgasal, like in the beginning. But they all die, without a soul transfer, and yet, Hwal reincarnated, even though he was still Bulgasal and had no soul. Where did the extra soul come from? I guess Hwal and Sang Un must be sharing one? Like the twins? Still missed how it got into Hwal.

A few days ago I was going through my ig feed and accidentally watched the preview of 4th ep of bulgasal. I didn't knew about this drama before. And in the preview, the song 'leave' was playing. One time listen was enough for me to watch the whole drama cuuz that ost is soooo good. So I started watching it just for that one song. And I have to say that this was one of my best decisions ever. This drama is so freaking good. The backstory of the characters. Their mysterious connections, everything. I saw some people saying that the leads had no chemistry or so. Like what? Bruh, Dan Hwal and Min Sang Un didn't even had to hold hands or kiss to show us their chemistry. Them being together on screen, just looking at each other was enough to make me ship them even though there was no clue about romance genre in this drama. Talking about ok eul tae, he's literally the best villain i've ever come across. Hands down to the actor Lee joon who played Ok eul tae's charachter. Such a big impact he has left on me with this single charachter Coming to the storyline, yeah there were some moments where the story might felt draggy, but there wasn't a single dull moment in this show. And the ending was literally the best. I mean the last episode was so friggin beautiful man i literally watched it like 3 times. Each and every single ost of this drama is like a drug to me. And the cinematograpgy mannnn.. the cinematography is one of the many reasons people should watch this show. So yeah, this drama is now one of my favourites beacause of all the points mentioned above.

the theme is good, but the execution is bad. the script is full of banal dialogue that often seems contrived and out of place, for example, you are going to bury me in the bottom of the well, but i am hungry now, lets eat. say cringey.
hope they pick better drama in the future.

The other characters are just like additional character to fill the duration of the drama, even the female lead seems useless to me. So sad for this great idea but I understand why the rating keeps decreasing.

Feb 06 2022 11:32 am The idea to create a drama like this is already brilliant, unfortunately the writers are too ambitious but still a 7/10 for me because thank you Lee Joon, Gong Seungyeon, Wooseok and Park Myungshin whose acting didn’t look like acting, instead they looked natural.
1) So much time (up until 14th episode) spent solely for the origin of Bulgasal that it became boring. It went back and forth. Like 16 episodes only to figure out what happened decades ago?? Easily boring if you’re inpatient like me. The story from 1000 years, 600 years, 1971/1975 etc were all very poorly told when in fact they could make it as simple as it is (yeah it is actually quite easy to predict what was all the character backstory) then add other scenes between the so-called family because really, the idea of family of 6 of them was so forced and cringed. Only Ms. Lee, Siho and Doyoon carried the idea of family properly.
2) I’m so sorry to LJW & KNR fans, but they don’t have chemistry almost at all. I forced myself to feel lovey for their romance but I just can’t. Their romance wasn’t balance. Plus I hate when FL was the try-hard and weak one while the ML is cool pfft
Great drama with a lot of wasted potential. Watch if you don’t mind just blindly following the screenwriting.

I hate bloody dramas but since i got immersed into the story and and music, now i've fallen in love with this drama so hard. Please have a happy ending!!
Feb 06 2022 2:29 am Bulgasal has interesting plot, but sometimes It feels dragging. All actors did well, I love Lee Joon he's so fantastic villain. Lee jin wook also did good job. I love Sangwoon's character. She is soft and feminine, kind to everyone. I am fed up with cliche badass female leads. Gong Seung yeon is ok, but she couldn't impress me except ep 1 and 2. I kinda agree her character seems unimportant here.

Feb 06 2022 12:39 am very fake dialogue, not very convincing of at all of a bunch of ppl who carry themselves as these characters do when confronted with this story line, feel somewhat embarrassed for actors involved.
particularly disappointing because the immortal fantasy theme is good, just wish it has been carried out with more thought out script. the production seems to care more about playing some soulful music in the background and try to tuck at the heartstrings with some nostalgic flashback of some scenes of their lives that werent developed at all and as such nobody really cares about, all form and no substance - many kdramas are guilty of, not just this one.
wish the leads better luck in the future finding the right projects.

Sangwoon's character somehow depicted positive development in recent episodes but I don't find Gong Seung Yeon's character better than Sangwoon

Beautiful and complicated story, stunning cinematography, and well fleshed out characters, just a 10/10 all over the scale. It has romance, family, reincarnation, monsters and myths. A must watch, will miss waiting in anticipation for new episode. Thank you to the whole cast and crew for an amazing experience.

It could hve been a interesting if there was episodes about what really happend to them 1000 years ago and not compacted in the ending. It was really good and makes me want to see more but it would have been nice if Siho had remembered more or slowly everyone was remembering and not just talking around lol
Feb 05 2022 10:58 am This drama was promising but the writing is lacking. There is one episode left and there is still so many unanswered questions that they raised in the story. What really happened 1000 years ago??? What really happened 600 years ago??? Why add all these twists to the story that you are not going to properly explain. Every episode has pretty much been the same thing added another question or twist with no real answer. Do you expect me to believe that in one episode it’s all going to be answered properly and fully understand what is going on. I highly doubt it. It’s gonna be another drama with failed to be executed properly.

Lee Jin Wook is charismatic bulgasal. Bit I found Siho's character unneccesary. She only caused problems without doing nothing. I expected more from Gong Seung Yeon. Sigh

The cop is a little annoying LOL. i dont want the revenge to be a love story. i want full on revenge story with 100 twists and turns. Hwal deserves vengeance for his family. i stopped watching after episode 8 to wait for all the episodes. Lee Joon is one of the future great actors. Silent sea and Bulgasal. he steals the scene every time. Lee Jin Wook so handsome. Seung Yong is so cute. she plays a teenage so good.

Jan 31 2022 5:52 am Okay, though any number of reasoning fails to explain why a bunch of vulnerable people would rush back to the lap of imminent danger that they know so well exists, I still loved episode 14. The preview made me a little insipid. I knew that Si ho and Do yun are far from dead and I was having difficulty digesting Dan hawl's knife-wielding scene, we all know he can't die (and he gets stabbed all the time), so what's with that sudden urge for masochism? But that was the best part of the episode, not that they justified his attempt at self-harm, I think after the evil smile, that was Lee Jinuk's best scene in the whole drama. I'd actually prefer Sang un to own more active decisions, not just a reactionary character to everything that happens, but I feel like Kown Nara gave it her whole, and she succeeds in that respect. I'd actually love for Lee Joon to be absolute evil now, the fact that he believes every crap that he spouts is getting on my nerve. I love the drama, and this last episodes aren't the absolute worse I was fearing but I can't shake the feeling of how much better it could have been. No worse feeling than that.
Jan 31 2022 3:04 am really like this genre of drama, but this one doesnt quite make the cut. as is the case where the script isnt quite fleshed out or working with very limited budget, instead of showing the details and letting the viewers they make the connections, they make characters narrate much of the story to provide backgournd details - like those cheap movies with long drawn out explications at the beginning to set the stage of the actual movie. here they do that through out the drama, where so and so conveniently recovers memories just in time to provide much needed details to get the plot moving.

There are many negative comments people are saying and that's their opinion but that doesn't change the fact that as a fan this is going to be my treasure for life! Every SangHwal moment will live rent-free in my mind.

Meanwhile ljw can play as villain too but Lee Joon is still perfect for the Eul Tae. In short, the casting are perfect as if they were destined to get those role including the female actress and actor who played doyoon.

Jan 26 2022 2:50 am When I started watching this, I have like 0% expectation of anything. Like maybe it will be just another fantasy dramas like Goblin and A Korean Odyssey, which I really enjoyed when they aired. And this time, Bulgasal doesn't disappoint at all. It just keeps getting better and better.
I get that alot of people are dissing Nara because she is the main lead and instead of Seung Yeon to be paired with Lee Jin Wook as his love interest. To me, Nara is perfect for her role in here because she has the unconventional beauty that matches the character of a goddess/immortal being. And her role in this drama is interchangeable from being a solemn, optimist Sung Un, to being the lady full of resentment in her past life. I think she really does a great job in her character portrayal.
This drama is also supposed to have the slow burn type of romance. I really dig that stuff in dramas. Doesn't have to be kisses or anything but sometimes from the smallest details like the small talks, stealing glances etc.
I really hope anyone who reads this, Bulgasal is highly recommended if you love fantasy genres, with the additions of angst, sorrow and all those painful feelings. It doesn't have comedy, but it has many heartfelt family scenes. Plus, the OST is just so, so beautifully haunting.
For now, Bulgasal is 8/10. Highly recommended for fantasy dramas, less recommendations if you're looking for romantic scenes.
Jan 26 2022 2:40 am each episode can perhaps be summed up as 50min of unrealistic slice of life chitchat amongst a group of people confronted by monsters and immortals, 15 mins of flashbacks, and perhaps 30sec of intrigue and fresh material. the acting leaves much to desire, everyone seems to have the same expression no matter whether they are being chased by monsters, or having a bbq dinner - all except one, lee joon's bulgasal wins drama queen of the year.

Jan 25 2022 4:37 am I loved the show all the way to the 8th episode, the way they sustained the tension was praiseworthy. But the painful truth is it faltered and it could have done way better. It had literally everything- an amazing cast, nice locations, catchy cinematography- they should have worked more on the characters. I liked the light moments, they do work to set a contrast to the much darker plot but when stretched they fall flat. I was so looking forward to the romance, but it turned out so juvenile! Sometimes I can't believe I'm watching two adults, one of whom has lived for 600 years...it's very off-putting when you think, the scenes are cute but absolutely outlandish. I also have problem deciphering why most of the characters do what they do. Why is Sang-un so ready to die? I love that she loves Hawl but dying is a big deal! And how is Hawl so matter of fact around Sang-un? She IS a woman, he's backdated about so many other stuffs but so conveniently 'progressive' while proposing to help her change her clothes-_- Also, I feel like, given Ok Eul-tae's power and knowledge, he could have had his way much easier, but instead he does all these illogical things (I'm hoping they have some meaning-_-) I love the drama and I know it can turn the current whenever needed, like episode 12. But leaving only 4 episodes to deal with a potential romance and a major back story feels rather rash to me. I'm afraid they won't be able to connect the dots...but then again, who knows, maybe it will surprise me...:)

The cast is awesome, but Kwon Nara really surprised me. I know only from ItaewonClass but here she managed to act 3 different persona. I didn't expect. Gong Seung yeon is amazing also. But she doesn't have enough screen time to be scene stealar. Lee Joon stole my heart. Lol
Jan 24 2022 8:53 am Just my two cents, Hwal and Sang-un were the original Bulgasals 1000 years ago (based from the fact that bulgasals come in pairs as what Ok Eul Tae said)..they were lovers..and Ok Eul Tae being a sickly child asked Hwal to turn him into a bulgasal. Sang-un probably cursed Hwal for the rest of his reincarnated life (from 1000 yrs down to 600yrs ago), when upon turning into a human he fell in love or was married unto Sol (this is 1000yrs ago too, remember all characters are entwined w/ each other). Despite cursing Hwal, Sang-un still cares for Hwal - it was shown when Hwal was still a small child when he fell in the water, Sang-un saved him... Knowing the history between Sang-un and Hwal as lovers, Ok Eul-Tae disguised himself and made it look like it was Sang-un who killed Hwal's family to make it look like Sang-un exacted her revenge for having Hwal hurt her for the past 400 yrs (1000yrs to 600yrs ago). Now, i am getting crazy..the plot is making me crazy actually! Lol

And the romance is part of it, deal with it.. and for some saying it's forced booo it's so subtle, a slowburn romance at the matter, who says it's forced.. and Kwon nara and lee jin wook have great chemistry, and as a viewer I felt it. And also to the other actors, they're rocking their respective characters, kudos to them.

Lee Jinwook and Gong Seung Yeon chemistry is the real deal, they should star in a next romance drama..the story is good, it got me hooked since ep1, but i think the writers are out of script already and the story is now like a rollercoaster going back to the beginning w/o an ending. Writers trying so hard to build that loveydovey feels between Hwal and Sang-un, when everybody can see that when Hwal looks at Sol the electrifying chemistry is unmistakable. I'm looking forward to how this will end, i just hope Hwal doesnt die.. Btw, LJW and LJ best suit the roles they play, such great actors.. LJW is my bias ever since i saw him in Voice. :)

Jan 23 2022 3:28 pm Glued to this drama with its intriguing plot development. Sometimes, i have to rewind some scenes to really get the feel. Very good, the actors too. I am always fascinated by Nara's expressive and soulful eyes. In all her dramas, even those 2nd lead like My Mister, she always deliver her best, regardless whether the role is minor. I think she even outshine the formidable Kim Dami in few scenes of Itaewon. Considering Dami is a very good actress too. Lee jin wook and Lee Joon are best in their dark bromance. Like Goblin, i will revisit this drama in the future. I got the feel how this will end. I feel it to be sad, hope its otherwise

Jan 23 2022 10:22 am Waiting every week for the story to be completely clear. The plot quite mind blowing. Its quite surprising to see how Hwal and Min Sang Un relationship begin. Did not expect that Min Sang Un originally was a human and how their characters kept on switching from 1000 years ago. Plus, I never expect that the poster in Ok Eul Tae house was actually Hwal & Min Sang Un. However, it seems to be some distortion in Ok Eul Tae's words. He knew everything yet he still tried to gain benefits on his own like what happened 1000 years back. He said to Hwal that Hwal was the one who wanted to be Bulgasal but it showed clearly in his memory he's the one requested to be like Hwal.It seems we need still need to wait another week to see how their stories goes and there maybe another plot twist coming seems Min Sang Un started to recall her memories 1000 years back. Tbh, I originally don't have any interest in the drama since it gave that Goblin's vibe but once I started to watch, I found myself waiting every week for the drama.

Currently on ep 11 and it really seems like both of them were actually lovers in the past. If you want romance, the romance itself is subtle and it's building up from ep11. Their chemistry are so good and both have killer visuals. Just really happy that he finally knew that he is taling a revenge on a wrong person.

It's a story about revenge to the wrong person that lasts 600 years. It's a typical drama that makes the viewers need to use their brain wondering what possibility happened 1000 years ago that leads to the tragedy. Small mystery is unfold one by one as the story goes but the biggest mystery is stored to be revealed in the end of the show.
Male lead & female lead have really great chemistry. The male lead has that manly handsome face (not typical flower boy) and the female lead is so beautiful like barbie doll.
Sang Un character is a cheerful, bright woman who cares about people surrounding her despite spending most of her life in hiding from monster. I like her character the most. Hwal character is a cold bulgasal who only think about revenge. On K-drama formula, Bright girl melt the heart of the cold guy.
For the romance part..it's a slow burn romance type so a little bit touching scenes make me excited & giggle.

He is so good that despite me knowing how evil he is, he almost has me rooting for him to win. Now that is talent in action.

Then his adopted father was a strong and wise warrior... Now in the future his so clumsy, idiotic and irritating.
I love the concept of this drama but the future story is just not measuring up to the pilot episode. The fight scenes are not as interesting as i thought they would be... They are almost like an after thought...
The only thing im happy about is the humor... And every now and then with each episode we are given that promise of a huge reveal that will turn everything upside down
I really hope next week things will really become more fast paced and make the lead actor's storyline more smarter and deliberate with every move...and our Hero being upgraded only now to a "real home" instead of " a haunted" house ?
The original bulgalsal is so proactive in his moves... His always 5 steps ahead... And loving the tenacity of his whole demeanor While leaving a very expensive looong life?

I hope they do something about the screenwriting because that's the weakest part of the show. Everything else is perfect! Hope they can also give the other characters apart from the 3 leads more importance because so far it feels like many are just background characters. It's ep 8 halfway! Cmon!

Jan 09 2022 2:04 pm I like how it has this never-ending store of plot twists, I was worried how long they can keep the tension alive, well, it's ever-present. Despite all the things Hawl doesn't know, his confidence in a lot of facts is sort of annoying. Sang-Un is his antithesis in this respect, she does some fact-checking. And though I like their chemistry, I sometimes wonder why does she like him. Today's prophesying was pretty interesting. Hawl and Sang-Un are ready predictions but I was thinking if Ms. Lee could be one as well. And I kind of believe Eul-Tae. I don't think he feels any shame in killing and sees himself as a victim, he doesn't seem like the type to hide his crimes. It's a fun drama which leaves so much to speculation...Anyway, I hope Jinuk's character gets some more gravity in the story, aside from being the stony brood all the time. Because the rest of them are too good and kind of dull, Lee Joon's character pops like a burst of colour... But loving it nonetheless:)

The story is not dragged out and there is still so much more to unfold even though we're already almost halfway through. Definitely don't think we will get bored anytime soon. Also Lee Joon's acting is wow. I discovered him in the silent sea (im a new kdrama watcher) and he's become one of my favorite my actors. He's just so talented. The other cast members are also doing an amazing job. Highly recommend!

I feel his pain when he said, "What about me? I also had a harder life than you think. You should look out for me too. Shit, my heart hurts for him. I feel like he's holding back his tears so bad. And when he start screaming painfully on the sofa, my heart ripped to pieces. Please dont make him die at the end though this kind of story probably end up with him dead.

Everytime he appears, all you can see is him but give him longer screentime people would feel different. The whole cast is carrying the show well. It's hard to say that one character is saving it.

Plus, one word - don't trust me or the haters' comments. Different people have different opinions and they not liking this doesn't mean that you also won't love it. But, I am 100 percent sure that you'll be unconciously attracted to this drama.
P.S I am just a Kdrama addict, not from the production company or Korea.
Jan 05 2022 9:39 am Ok so far from what I’ve gathered is that, Bugalsul is 2 people (1 good and 1 bad). The bad one wants to kill the soul and it doesn’t matter who has it, just so long as the soul dies. The good just wants revenge because when Nara was Bugasul, she supposedly killed his family.. I think the bad bugasul killed his family and made it seem like she did it. Has anyone ever noticed the scenes from when she was a child and the bad bugasul killed her mother and sister how he wasn’t able to kill her but was in pain? And than when he tried to kill her after hurting the good bugasul and he came back to save her, the bad bugasul was in pain again and couldn’t kill her? It’s when they are together, the bad bugasal is hurt and vulnerable. They haven’t figured it out yet, but when they do I’m sure during ep 14 or 15 they will kill him and there won’t be any revenge because the good bugasul would have fallen in love with her already and the curse will be broken. Let’s see if I’m right at the end ?
Jan 05 2022 4:03 am @jiayu I agree that most k-dramas are at fault in this regard. It's ridiculous and as you said I often felt cheated. But I don't see that in this drama. For example, Sang-Un basically doesn't know anything except for something vague in the name of a sword and Hawl spilled almost everything except for the fact that Si-Ho used to be his wife in a different life. Only Ok Eul-Tae might have knowledge of significance that he's holding back and I think for good reasons. The only thing I can accuse this drama of is probably melodrama and a mild case of eccentricity which doesn't even feel bad (as you yourself noted its capability of being entertaining). I'm dreading plot holes but that didn't emerge yet..so, don't understand the complaint, really.

Feels like it would have been a great binge if I didn't get too curious to check right after the launch. The lead, Lee Jin-Wook does well as a brooding 600-year-old with a heart of gold. I got into the drama because of Nara and to me, she seemed steller. Gotta appreciate all the side characters. I liked Jin-Young better in the past, he was humble and majestic, but I guess it's part of the plot to show the differences. Can't understand why are people clamoring for Hawl-Sol pairing, I mean they had great scenes but that actually laid bare her hate for him, maybe it's not absolute but 'chemistry' is a strong word. I like Jin-Wook and Nara together, it's obvious but not overbearing. I think the romance is going to use this confusion of his wife being present but I really don't see any reason to root for them. Anyway, great drama, I like Lee Joon because he really is a break from all these good people:)...and waiting for the episodes to air is a real torment.

Felt really happy for Hwal not being by himself anymore: it feels like he's slowly getting a little family: Siho/Dan Sol, JJyoung/ex detective, Achan/Doyun his son, Sang-un/bulgasal and the other bulgasal OK. What is the connection between the 3 old souls? Was it betrayal? Jealousy? That caused this curse on the one and then the other, ie Dark Hole? Why did she give up being an immortal? Is it so the circle of life going from good to bad to good to forgiveness via suffering and repentance? I'm totally intrigued (not a fan of the horror elements though). Superb acting of Ok: what a total nutcase! I guess living for that long and being lonely does one's head in so to speak.

He is the only actor in the cast who create good character for now (plus child actress Han Seo Jin). For me Lee Jin Wook in this kind of role is miscasting. He can play strong and simple guy (mostly detectives) but not 600 years old man. There is clear lack of deep emotion in his eyes. Nara's acting is a average,probably would pass if she had better partner.Gong Seong Yeong's role is for now on the level of cameo so not much I can say about her acting here. I like idea with monsters but it is not well utilised. Ex monster show ups, than we see 5s of his death in the past and then he die again in modern times. Where is storytelling? I don't even see the plot. Nice set up but today this is not enough to create good scenario.

More I want to see Joseon era story now... that was much better with monster and evil stuff. I want to see more heart warming scenes of Sol and AChan in past story..... Nam Do Hyun as an addition to Hwal’s current home adds comic relief to the drama. Hwal also has his own dry humour that works well with the actor’s delivery.

Some of u told she is lacking compared to 2FL. However, I didn't notice it at all. She is amazing so far. May be it is just because she didn't have so many scenes with male lead. But as story progresses we know their chemistry. In terms of acting, she is at the same level with 2FL. Gong seung yeon(if I amn't mistaken) is capable but female lead is stealing the show for me so far

Really in to the scene of Sol & Hwal in past story but they should have made it less intense cuz it make us hard to root for main FL. The chemistry between 2nd FL & ML was so fire its still burning bright 600 years later. I know they wanted to shoot us strong reason for ML's vengeance that's why, make it more emotinal for Sol&Hwal. I really hope they have something to show us powerful from FL's side.
Dec 31 2021 4:48 pm Some thoughts on Seungyeon and Nara since a few people are discussing about them in the comments. I personally love them both and I think Nara's character will grow on people more as she develops.
In terms of acting I do think Seungyeon has been better. But that doesn't have to be a knock on Nara. Seungyeon just recently won an award at one of the most prestigious award shows in the entire country. She's a really great actress. And even though she has (imo) given a better performance so far; her character has also given her more chances to showcase her acting skills. Nara will get more chances to impress and I'm sure she will.
More than anything I just want more scenes between the two of them. I really like the sisterly bond that is obviously strained and impacted by trauma but still full of love

But in the drama I didn't notice that. I adore Seung Yeon. She is fabuluos actress. Not to mention her recent Blue dragon award. I am her fan. But Kwon Nara is acting so flawlessly despite being an idol. So surprisingly good. And I think both of them are doing great. Don't bash Kwon Nara just because u like second female lead like me. She isn't overshadowed at all. Her acting is also "chef kiss". Gong Seung yeon is my favourite, but Kwon Nara is also growing on me

We still have 12 episodes to go and I know that there is more to reveal between Sangwoon and Hwal that will make us understand and not to suffer with a second lead syndrome. I'm a Seungyeon fan and I can say that both female leads are doing well with their acting. I will not degrade the other one just because I have favoritsm. Bulgasal team fighting!

Dec 26 2021 7:33 am The way I see it, both Hwal and Kim Sung Un were tied by destiny even before they first met in ep1. I think they had known each other in their previous life. Hwal might be the bulgasal that killed Min Sung Un and then he absorbed her soul so he reincarnated and reborn as a human while Sung Un became the bulgasal. That's why in ep1, Hwal who had been reborn as a human was said to be cursed by bulgasal. Sung Un wanted to get her revenge and she did the same thing to Hwal, killed his wife and his son then she took his soul and became a human while he went back to be a bulgasal. Remember when Hwal stabbed her heart with his sword for killing his family, she said that he brought it upon himself and that she hated him. She also said that karma and attribution would eventually come to him. Her words were a bit strange considering the fact that she's the one who killed his family so Hwal in his previous life might had done something to her and that's the reason for her revenge. Both of their lives were kept repeating the same cycle, just like an immortal soul.

Dec 20 2021 7:01 pm Queen_K Revenge is not actually between two leads. It was main leads sister (Sang Yeon) who stole his soul. Probably all 3 of them knew each other in the previous life, knowing k-dramas both leads fell in love at that time but for some reason her sister,Sang-Yeon become Bulgasal (Hwal had dream about it, there were twins there).In Hwal's past it was probably as well Sang-Un who protected him and died. Her mother killed another immortal, guy with empty eyes (maybe Achan), probably Lee Joon's character.

I doubt hwal was the one who killed her sister and mom, wouldn't be like him to do so, what might really mess my head up a little is if they create a love story between hwal and Dan sol, they have to really believable! cos I can't seem to forgive her for killing hwal wife and son, so they better give Dan Sol a very good reason!... either way the show is really good

Dec 20 2021 1:54 am It has been so long since i had so much interest on one drama...kdramas lately became too boring if not predictable.tjose you expect to shine ends up floppy.and those with mediocre cast stands out unexpectedly. This one is a masterpiece, from the sound effect, to cinematography, lines and acting is a chef kiss!

I really liked the first 2 eps! the story is new and different so much thriller.. haven't watched something this good after mouse and devil judge! totally my genre <3
another reason to love the drama is lee joon!! can't wait to see his dark side once again after gapdong, evil roles are for him <3

Dec 19 2021 1:17 am Ep1 highlight is Dan Hwal holding his son. I want to commend Lee Jin Wook for his believable portrayal of a father losing his son. I like how he cried with regret while still keeping his calm, no shouting, no overacting. He is not just acting with his eyes but with his voice too. Who would have thought he is not the first choice for this role.

His movie A Tiger in Winter is boring for me but his acting there is solid. Another solid performance are Nine, Target and Voice among others. He is really good in any genre except romantic comedy. I felt awkward watching him in Time with you and I need romance, or maybe that's director's doing? But I want to see him in this fantasy.

Will it have the same impact to LJW? Well as his fan for so many years, I don't want him to gain more popularity I am satisfied just seeing him with a different good drama every year. Because in this world where there are a lot of toxic people, it's better to be appreciated by few but smart people.

We can't say it's a downgrade, I'm sure the producers and writers have seen something common with these three that would fit the role. Maybe the face and charisma, needless to day the acting.
