Butterfly Syllable Sort - Pocket Chart Sort and Cut and Paste Syllable Sort

Description

This pocket chart sort is a fun addition to your butterfly themed learning. Sort butterfly themed words like caterpillar, butterfly, and chrysalis by counting syllables. After the pocket chart sort, follow up with the cut and paste syllable sort.

Students sort between 1, 2, 3, and 4 syllable words. There are nine butterfly-themed word cards to sort.

Use a pocket chart or simply lay the cards out on a table.

•Place the syllable 1-4 cards as headers on your pocket chart.

•Students take turns picking a card and saying the name of the picture on the card out loud.

•Together, clap the word to find out the number of syllables on the picture (or use another strategy to identify syllables).

•Put the card next to the correct number of syllables. Keep playing until all cards are sorted.

Extension: Students use the corresponding worksheet to cut & paste to sort the pictures on their own after matching all the cards!

Great activity to practice counting syllables in words.
