Description

Butterfly Wound Closures are thin adhesive strips that are used to join the edges of small wounds back together to promote healing. They are sometimes referred to as Butterfly Stitches, Butterfly Bandaids, Butterfly Bandages, Skin-Closure Strips or “Steri-Strips”. They are commonly used to treat small cuts without the need for stitches or medical glue.

Directions For Use

  1. Before touching the wound, it is important to wash hands thoroughly first
  2. Cool water or saline should be used to cleanse the area of debris and dirt
  3. Dry entirely before attempting to apply the butterfly wound closure
  4. Bring the two edges of the cut together
  5. Stick one side of the butterfly wound closure to one side of the wound
  6. Stick the other side down, still holding the two edges of the wound together
  7. Place additional wound strips on cut if necessary
  8. Whilst a protective dressing such as a bandage is not needed it can be applied if you choose.

The wound should be kept dry if possible and if it does not stop bleeding once the wound closures have been placed, it’s a good indication that they are not suitable, and you should seek medical advice. If after a week the wound doesn’t appear to be healing, seek medical advice. They are not suitable for use on joints that often move such as knees, hairy parts of the body or oily areas. They should be removed carefully and replaced as necessary.
