Feedback: +33 / =0 / -0 Joined May 6, 2016 Messages 662 Hello, I am wondering what you all think of buying knives off of Amazon? Specifically the quality of the knife received. I have heard that the knives sold off of Amazon are factory seconds and fakes. I have bought several from them and I've had a few problems with stripped screws, blade grinds, and fit and finish. In short do you trust knives from Amazon? Ggzb

Feedback: +59 / =0 / -0 Joined May 5, 2013 Messages 3,618 I have no comment on if the knives from Amazon are legit or not, or if they are "factory seconds" or whatever, I can't verify any of that... All I can say is that as a knife enthusiast I support other knife enthusiasts and actual knife retailers. Than means I purchase 100% of my knives off of Knife forums or from knife retailers that live and love this hobby.... These small retailers are incredibly important to the hobby, and knife enthusiast are incredibly important to them.palonej

You won't get the support or service you get from the smaller dealers. Some EXCELLENT dealers: USAmadeblade GP KSF KC KW Blade HQ to name a few. Joemeako
Gold Member Feedback: +0 / =0 / -0 Joined Sep 4, 2006 Messages 10,150 I thought Amazon was a bit like Ebay- you buy from other vendors or dealers VIA amazon as opposed to FROM amazon- this is certainly the case with some books that I have purchased- they'll have 5 of the same book but from different people selling.Cow51

Feedback: +6 / =0 / -0 Joined Mar 1, 2016 Messages 803 I've only purchased one Spyderco off of Amazon and it was flawless, it was sold as Spyderco being the dealer. I buy a lot of other things on there since you can usually get a better price since profit margins are so narrow due to high competition or being sold directly by manufacturer I've noticed cost on Amazon to be lower than their website, I usually comparison shop but don't always buy from the cheapest just depends on a few factors. Things I do like about Amazon is feedback system has been accurate in my experience, I haven't had a single flawed or defective item yet out of near 100 purchases, times where there's been any discrepancy Amazon offered to protect me 100% so I appreciate their customer relations top notch. That said I try to support small business where I can afford to, though sometimes their markup is so much higher I feel like I'm getting gouged and say f-that and give in to our corporate overlords.ChazzyP
Platinum Member Feedback: +111 / =0 / -0 Joined Dec 27, 2014 Messages 8,609 I buy the majority of my knives off the Exchange here. New knives I generally get from the good dealers BF members are familiar with such as those Joe mentioned above. Early on, I picked up a couple off the Big Auction Site and didn't have any problems, but everything's about buying and selling there, and it's not a place for real knife enthusiasts. I do buy a lot of stuff other than knives at the Big River Site, am a Prime member, have always been treated well, and the very few issues that have arisen over the years have been dealt with promptly and professionally. I like Amazon. I've bought a ZT and the odd Spydie or BM there, but with MAP in place the price is same at the real knife dealers and I'd much rather support them as they support the hobby.sharp_edge
Gold Member Feedback: +111 / =0 / -0 Joined Jul 30, 2015 Messages 5,972 I agree with GotSteel on general purchases on Amazon. It is the place where I buy many things, more than any other places bar grocery stores. My experience has been excellent: fast shipping, great return policy, and very useful customer reviews of products. That being said, I do not buy knives priced more than $120 or so from Amazon - I always use proven knife dealers like bladehq, knifeworks, and kershawguy. However, all knives I bought from Amazon (Cold Steel, sub-$100 Spydercos, kabar, etc) are flawless, maybe except a Buck 110 which I think had nothing to blame Amazon of but the quality of that knife itself. Edit: also agree with ChazzyP completely.Thomas Linton
Feedback: +12 / =0 / -0 Joined Jun 16, 2003 Messages 20,207 I prefer to buy from members here, makers, and dealers who support BF. I did buy a Browning knife off Amazon (Competition Chopper") because no one else seemed to have it by then. I seems to be the real deal and is flawless. I never heard Amazon sold seconds.TOMBSTONE
Feedback: +30 / =0 / -0 Joined Oct 31, 1998 Messages 3,037 I've mostly been buying from dealers or on the exchange. EBay and Amazon I have become careful with certain items. Counterfeit knives have become widespread and difficult to detect.115Italian
Feedback: +14 / =0 / -0 Joined Nov 13, 2015 Messages 2,928 There are so many great knife dealers with great competetive prices, why go anywhere else? Yes once in a while i hear someone say you can get it cheaper on amazon. It ends up being pennys compared to the comfort of knowing my knife is legit.powernoodle

Click to expand...I have purchased zillions of knives from Amazon with a 100% success rate. They also have an unsurpassed return policy with free shipping, so there really is no downside. Sure its possible - from Amazon or anywhere - to receive a knife that someone already returned or has some problem, but its never happened to me. Same with eBay, if you stick to sellers with multiple thousands of sales and >99% positive feedback. M

Never had a return refused or questioned . But many merchants and even individuals sell on Amazon and may not be so nice to deal with . If you have a problem after your 30 days , I don't think Amazon gets involved . You'd best check with the manufactures beforehand about honoring warranty for sales thru Amazon .Armadew
