Another year, another Call of Duty, but this time we're not talking about Modern Warfare or even Advanced Warfare. 2016 is the year for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Activision took the blindfold from our little blinking COD-playing eyes on May 2, treating us to a dual Call of Duty announcement in the form of a brand-spanking new COD game for November, plus a remake of the best COD entry, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Sadly you can only get Modern Warfare HD when you buy the Legacy Edition of Infinite Warfare, but more on that later.

CALL OF DUTY: INFINITE WARFARE RELEASE DATE - WHEN IS IT COMING OUT?

Activision has confirmed that the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare release date is set for November 4, 2016. That's just in time for Christmas, when every gamer would love something COD-shaped in their stocking.

It's coming to PS4 and Xbox One only, so anyone still rocking an Xbox 360 or PS3 is going to miss out. (The new consoles have been out over two years now...)

Space. Space is what's new. Well, that and a few other things.

According to developer Infinity Ward, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will return to "the gritty large-scale war roots of the franchise, while boldly looking head" in terms of campaign, while the multiplayer will "deliver the future of warfare, with many new gameplay innovations."

Peeling back the marketing jargon for a moment, Infinity Ward explains that you play as Captain Reyes, a Tier One Special Operations Pilot who is in charge of one of Earth's last remaining warships.

This futuristic story won't be as Earth-locked as those found in previous Call of Duty games, as Reyes will be battling the Settlement Defence Front (SetDef). This insurgency was once part of the United Nations Space Alliance, but has rebelled over the issues surrounding Earth's colonies.

SetDef is comprised of brutal and militant radicals. They seek to control all resources and wealth from outposts throughout the Solar System, putting a stranglehold on the countries of Earth.

So far, so spacey. (Not Kevin this time, though.)

Apparently, in Infinite Warfare, Earth has been stripped of resources, forcing humans to rely on food production from Earth's colonies. However, SetDef wants to take all the produce for themselves.

Cue massive battles both on Earth and in space, with players actually able to pilot jet fighters and spaceships.

It also seems Infinite Warfare will have a few Mass Effect vibes, as the huge warship you pilot, the Retribution, will also be your home. Plus, it seems you will be able to have conversations with your crewmates, allowing Infinity Ward to deliver what it's calling "rich emotional arcs".

But seriously, COD in space.

CALL OF DUTY: INFINITE WARFARE TRAILER - WHAT HAVE WE SEEN SO FAR?

The first trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was released as the game was announced. It revealed the game's release date, but also that it would come bundled with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered if you purchase the Legacy Edition come launch.

CALL OF DUTY: INFINITE WARFARE ZOMBIES - WILL THERE BE A ZOMBIE MODE?

Anyone with a penchant for the undead will be pleased to hear that the famous Zombies Mode will be making a return with Infinite Warfare.

Developer Infinity Ward states that "the cooperative Zombies mode takes players on a wild ride through a new storyline with unique gameplay features and mechanics".

That's all we know about the new Zombies mode so far, but expect to learn a lot more at E3 2016 in June.

CALL OF DUTY: INFINITE WARFARE LEGACY EDITION - WHAT IS IT AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Right, so it seems that there are two main versions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The standard edition comes with Infinite Warfare. But then, if you pony up some extra monies for the Legacy Edition, you'll nab yourself both the new game and the remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

There's quite a jump in costs though. If you want to digitally pre-order either version via PSN or the Xbox Store, the standard digital pre-order costs £54.99, but jump up to the Legacy and you're looking at £79.99.

That's £25 for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but there's currently no other way to purchase this separately, so if you want to play the best COD title in HD you're going to have to pay for the Legacy edition.
