According to Tom Henderson on Twitter today, it seems the initial file size for Call of Duty Vanguard is going to be 270 GB. Since then, there has been a follow-up update confirming that the file size is actually going to be around the 75-100 GB ballpark, and the 270GB is reportedly something to do with Warzone. The file size also supposedly depends on the player’s selected region.

The recent Call of Duty games, dating as back as the Modern Warfare reboot, have been getting a fair(and well deserved) amount of flak for their absurd file sizes. Modern Warfare itself is nearly 100 gigs and with Warzone added it far surpasses that mark too. Both games received an update slightly optimizing the file size a few months ago.

The latest game in the series Call of Duty Cold War also experienced controversy due to its insane 250 GB requirement. While it makes sense to consider that there are multiple modes in each game, it also has to be said that developers should take note to optimize the files that are in these games. It’s an easy guess to make that a lot of this is attributed to the additional cosmetic skins and models that are already present in the game as downloaded files along with their 4K Texture counterparts that you are usually forced to download alongside each new update. This is juxtaposed by games like Rainbow Six Siege that offer a similar amount of content in less than half the size of an average Call of Duty game today.

Call of Duty Vanguard is coming out November 9th this year with a new trailer confirming the release date. The game is being worked on by two different studios with Sledgehammer Games working on the story and multiplayer component while Treyarch is on the helm with the new Zombies mode. A new trailer showing the game’s campaign in action is also going to be shown in the coming days. For now, it remains to be seen how Vanguard is going to come out as people are staying skeptical for this one but it’s safe to say that whenever it does people are suddenly going to forget that Activision is actually a morally bankrupt company.
