Support Basics & Interface Paint_Guy (Paint Guy) January 26, 2012, 9:35am 1 I want to open two separate .blend files so it is easier to see the settings from one file to change settings in the next file. Currently I have to open the file and manually write down the settings then close the file and open the other file. It’s quite tedious. I am not talking about “appending” files. Is there a way to open two .blend files at once to make editing easier? I saw a tutorial ( i can’t find it) where someone easily toggled from one .blend to another without having to close the other. Blutarsky (Blutarsky) January 26, 2012, 9:39am 2 you can open a separate blender session where you can open the file you want. 3dmedieval (3dmedieval) January 26, 2012, 9:51am 3 I often do this. A common setup is this: 2 Blends open (or more), + Photoshop. Of course I work primarily, so there’s little risk of crashing my computer. If you open (2) 10,000,000 vert scenes at the same time, not sure what that would do to your system. RickyBlender (RickyBlender) January 26, 2012, 9:58am 4 ok but on windows only one file has the write privilege so you cannot modifiy in the 2 files at same time and save only one the first fle i think has write privilege salutations Paint_Guy (Paint Guy) January 26, 2012, 10:54am 5 Thanks. I don’t mind if I have to toggle between the two as long as they are both open so I can toggle between them. So on blender (mac) anyone know how to open up two .blend files at once? zavigny (zavigny) January 26, 2012, 12:17pm 6 Sure, it’s easy on a Mac too. Go to your Blender application icon and right click. Choose “Show package contents”, then open the “Contents” folder, then open the “Mac OS” folder. Click on “blender” and you’ll launch a new instance of Blender. I find it easier just to have two different builds of Blender installed, with icons for both in the dock. Then you can work in one, and just start the other. The builds only need to be different. Artkansas (Artkansas) January 26, 2012, 2:11pm 7 It’s easy, I do it all the time.
