When this writer first heard the ad, visions of sleeping on a pillow of hard stick like material didn’t sound all that appealing. After researching, it was discovered this was not the case at all, but more questions arose, such as ‘can you wash a bamboo pillow?’ for example.

 

What is a Bamboo Pillow?:-

This type of sleeping pillow is made with a bamboo-based viscose outer covering and filled with shredded foam for comfort and support. The bamboo viscose material supposedly has greater strength than other pillow coverings. The shredded foam molds to fit your head and neck to provide a better sleeping experience.

The bamboo combination fabric is reportedly stronger than silk and softer than cotton. It also claims to shed heat, is anti-microbial and hypo-allergic. According to one manufacturer, you can. Even though the product will be naturally resistant to odors, dust mites, and germs, you can’t be too careful. But, can you wash a bamboo pillow?

"Of course, you can wash a Bamboo pillow by the washing machine or by hand, While washing a bamboo pillow uses tepid water or a soft and gentle detergent that doesn’t contain bleach which is ideal for washing these bamboo pillows. You need to use the gentle cycle in the machine. Be sure to check for any tears or holes in the cover of the pillow and mend those before putting the pillow in the washer."

You can wash a single pillow, but you may want to add some towels to the load to keep the machine level. We always suggest reading and follow all manufacturer instructions on the label.

If you want to spot clean your pillow, use a small amount of warm water and a mild or gentle detergent that doesn’t contain bleach. Gently rub the spot, let it set for approximately a quarter of an hour, then rinse.

You can hand-wash, using the same instructions for warm water and gentle detergent. It is not advisable to wring or twist any pillow, including the bamboo variety. 

Drying a bamboo pillow at home is recommended by putting two pillows in the dryer.  If you don’t have two, a couple of tennis balls will work to help fluff the pillow and keep its shape. Always use the delicate cycle when it comes to drying.

Thanks for your info re; Washing Bamboo Pillows… zzz 😊 Even if the wash instructions on the tag of the Bambillo say “DO NOT MACHINE WASH”? … I want to wash my pillow but am worried I will destroy my favourite pillow in the process. Thank you for you Blog.

Yes I just wanted to let you know that I have had my bamboo pillow for over two years now and I’m so glad I brought it I’ve had neck and back surgery and it’s the only pillow in my whole 56 years of life that hasn’t caused my neck are back to hurt I JUST LOVE MY BAMBOO PILLOW so much the best money I ever spent and I’m about to buy me a new one I just want to say thanks to who ever invented this pillow I live in day to day pain but with my bamboo pillow I don’t have to worry about it making my neck are back hurt

Thanks for the info re: the washing of the bamboo pillows. I was delighted to hear that they can be washed at home in the washing machine & even dried in the dryer. They are such comfortable pillows but they do need to be washed occasionally! Thanks again!
