The three rioters pledged to seek out and kill death. 2. a) the old man tells the rioters they will find death waiting for them under the tree. b) The three rioters find a large sum of gold coins under the tree. 3. The two elder rioters plan to kill the younger man in order to get more than their share of gold. 4. When the youngest of the three goes to town for food, he comes up with the idea to kill his companions as to keep all the gold for himself. They planned to ambush him and kill him when he came back so they wouldn't have to share it so many ways. 4.The youngest rioter bought poison while he was in town. The old man tells the drunkards that they will find death under the tree. 2b. The drunkards actually find sacks of gold coins. 3. To increase their share of the gold, the two drunkards who were supposed to watch the gold decided to stab the drunkard who was supposed to bring them wine and bread. 4. The youngest drunkard poisions the wine he bought from the town to take the gold for himself. In the end, the two stab him then drink the poisened wine and they all end up dying. They claim Death to be a traitor and they want to find and kill him. 2a. The old man tells the three rioters they will find death under the tree. 2b. The rioters actually found eight bushels of golden florins under the tree. 3. The two older rioters sent the youngest rioter into town to buy bread and wine. The two older rioters plan to kill the youngest so they only have to share the coins with each other. 4. When the youngest rioter goes into town he comes up with a plan to kill the two other rioters. The old man tells the rioters that they will find Death waiting under an oak tree. Line 105 says, "Under a tree, and there you'll find him waiting." b. The rioters actually find a beautiful, bright and precious pile of florins, or coins. This can be backed up in lines 114 through 117. 3. When the third rioter comes back, one of them is to approach him for a friendly wrestle. Then, the other rioter will come up behind him with a dagger and stab him. The two rioters are working together to kill the third and youngest rioter so that they can split the gold themselves (lines 168-174). 4. The youngest rioter goes back to town for bread and wine and thinks about desiring the entire pile of coins for himself. He picks up the wine, but goes to an apothecary to poison the other two rioter's drinks so that they would die, and he, the third rioter, would get all the coins (lines 212-219). The three rioters pledge to kill Death because he has taken away all of their friends. They vow to be brothers and protect each other in their quest. 2. a.) The old man tells the rioters that they will find Death under the tree. by saying this, he leads them into thinking Death will be in the form of an old man. b.) The rioters actually find a pile of florins, or gold coins. The men do not realize that the gold coins are in fact the Death the old man was talking about (the greed brings about their death). 3. The two eldest of the three rioters decide to increase their share of good by killing the youngest "brother." Their plan is to attack him with knives when he comes back from running his errands. 4. The youngest rioter decided to get not only bread and wine, but poison to put in the eldest two brothers' wine to kill them and take the treasure for himself. They left early in the morning and spent all day searching for him in hopes to stop him from killing even more people. 2. a) The rioters believe that the old man is working with death to destroy youths. Because of this, the man told the rioters they would find death underneath the tree. b) The three men actually found a pile of gold florins underneath the tree. They gold, however, ended up being death for all three of them. 3. The two older rioters planned to kill the youngest. The first man was going to pretend to wrestle with the young one, and then the second man was going to stab him with his knife. After that, the first one was also going to stab him with his knife. 4. The youngest rioter wanted the gold all to himself, so he made a plan to poison the other two rioters. When he first got into town, he went to the apothecary and bought poison, claiming it was for rats. Then he went and bought three bottles of wine and put poison inside two of them.
