The MBTA Capital Investment Plan (CIP) is a financially constrained investment program that funds the planning, construction, and capital maintenance of assets across the MBTA. It is a rolling five-year plan, updated annually in coordination with MassDOT and the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The CIP includes over 600 unique capital projects. These investments aim to maintain a state of good repair, modernize our assets, improve service, and meet our strategic priorities and performance goals. It is informed by the Capital Needs Assessment and Inventory, the Strategic Planning Report, and long-term plans such as Focus40 and Rail Vision.
