What is a Car Window Tint?

A car window tint refers to installing a thin film to your car window to block out UV rays from the sun.

This often darkens the surface of the window and finishes with a sleek look.

Benefits of Car Window Tinting

Keeps your car cool

Tinting your windows helps to reject heat from the sun, keeping your car cool. This means less usage of your air-conditioning system which translates to lower fuel consumption and more long-term savings for you.

Blocks out UV rays

UV rays have harmful long-term effects on our skin such as causing skin cancer and ageing. Tinting your car windows with solar films ensures that you are not unnecessarily exposed to them.

Reduces discolouration of leather seats

As UV rays are blocked out, this prevents discolouration and cracking of your leather seats. Maintaining the condition of your car allows you to enjoy its pristine condition and when the time comes, you can sell it at a good price.

Protects against shattered glass during accidents

Window tints shatter-proof your windows, improving safety if an accident were to happen.

Enhances security

Because it forms a darker look on your windows, outsiders are less able to notice any belongings left in the car. This enhances security and prevents theft from happening.

Process of Tinting Car Windows

  • Prep the windows

In a clean and dry workspace, any stickers from your windows are removed. Then, the windows are cleaned and dried to prep for the installation.

  • Measure window and cut tint to fit

Your car window will be measured by placing your choice of film over the window. Thereafter, the excess edges will be cut away.

  • Stick the tint

Once the size is finalised, the film is stuck onto your window using the adhesive and smoothed out with a squeegee.

Regulations for Car Window Tinting in Singapore

According to the regulations set by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), your window tint has to adhere to these requirements:

  • Rear windscreen and 2 rear side windows: ≥ 25% of light can pass through

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does car window film last?

The lifespan of car window film can vary depending on factors such as the quality of the film, the installation process, and environmental conditions. Generally, high-quality window films can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years or more. However, exposure to harsh sunlight, extreme temperatures, and poor installation can reduce its effectiveness and durability. It’s essential to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for maintenance and care to maximise the lifespan of the window film.

What is the best tint for a car?

The “best” tint for a car depends on personal preferences, legal regulations in your area, and specific needs. Some popular types of window tint include:

  • Dyed Film: Offers good heat and glare reduction.
  • Metalized Film: Provides effective heat rejection and durability.
  • Carbon Film: Combines style with excellent heat rejection.
  • Ceramic Film: Offers high heat rejection without interfering with electronic signals.

The best choice often depends on factors like your budget, desired appearance, and the level of heat and UV protection you need. Book a consultation with us to learn more!

How much is window tinting in Singapore?

The cost of window tinting in Singapore can vary based on several factors, including the type of film used, the size of your vehicle’s windows, and the reputation of the tinting service provider. Prices can range from SGD 200 to SGD 600 or more – contact our team for an accurate quotation.

Is 20% tint worth it?

The choice of tint darkness (percentage) is subjective and depends on individual preferences and local regulations. A 20% tint means that 20% of light can pass through the windows. Factors to consider:

  • Visibility: Darker tints provide more privacy but may reduce visibility, especially at night.
  • Heat and UV Rejection: Darker tints generally offer better heat and UV protection.

Ultimately, whether 20% tint is worth it depends on your specific needs, local laws, and personal preferences for aesthetics and functionality. It’s recommended to strike a balance that meets legal requirements and satisfies your preferences for privacy and protection.
