What Are Carrots and What Do They Do in Minecraft

Carrots are primarily used as a food source in Minecraft. But they can also be used to craft a couple of different items in-game. Players can also use carrots for breeding Pigs, Rabbits, and Villagers.

Where to Find Carrots

Carrots can often be found in several locations in-game. Below is a chart of where carrots spawn, where to find them, how many spawn, and the chances of you finding them for both Java and Bedrock.

Specific mobs are known to drop carrots too. They have a 2.5% of dropping them upon death. Below is a list of the mobs that are known to drop carrots.

• Zombie and Zombie Villager
• Husk

There's also a 20% that a village will have a carrot farm when discovered.

How to Grow Carrots

To farm carrots, you'll need to have at least one in your inventory first.

Now that you have a carrot use a hoe on any grass block touching the water and plant the carrot.

After it is planted, wait for it to grow fully, or use some bone meal to speed up the process. And once it's fully grown, you can harvest it, and you'll have carrots.

Carrots are decent at refilling your hunger bar in-game. Below you'll find how many hunger bars a carrot refills.

What Can I Craft With Carrots

Carrots can be used to craft three different items in-game. Below you'll see what you can craft using a carrot alongside a picture of the recipe and a list of the items required.

Carrot on a Stick

• Fishing Rod: 1
• Carrot: 1

Rabbit Stew

• Cooked Rabbit: 1
• Mushroom: 1
• Baked Potato: 1
• Bowl: 1

Golden Carrot

• Gold Nugget: 8
• Carrot: 1

What Is a Golden Carrot and What Do They Do in Minecraft

Golden Carrots are another source of food in-game. Golden Carrots can be used to tame/heal Horses, Donkeys, and Mules. As well as create the Potion of Night Vision.
