Caulking - What Should, And Should Never Be Caulked

The Fundamentals of Correct Application
Caulking Corners
This is a must-do for all houses. Moisture hides in corners and ledges. We use quality sealants to prevent damage to the structure.

Butt-joints....but not all Butt-joints
Should they always be caulked? The answer depends on the manufacturer. NOTE: Generally, we do not recommend caulking butt-joints on cedar siding to allow for natural expansion. We only caulk these if they were previously sealed.

Trim boards & Wood Windows
Sealant prevents moisture penetration and improves the finished appearance. Our protocol includes all trim-to-trim and trim-to-siding transitions.

Garage door trim (Casing)
The trim surrounding the door must be sealed, but never any part of the garage door panels themselves. Panels require room for free-play during operation.
