SANDUSKY, Ohio — Cedar Point reopens this Saturday with new restaurants and a different payment system, but a notable ride won't be open for visitors.

The park will open the gates at 10 a.m. for its 153rd season. Some new attractions include the Farmhouse Kitchen & Grill in Frontier Town, an eatery with selections like roasted corn ribs and house-made chili; Castaway Bay in Cedar Point Peninsula, a tropical-themed indoor water park; and around 200 acres of land with a resort called Sawmill Creek that features dining and golf.

Castaway Bay opens Friday, while the Sawmill Creek resort opens in June.

Another change is the park is going cashless for the season. Cash will be turned into a prepaid debit card, which can be used inside or outside the park. It will also take Apply Pay, Google Pay and credit cards.

The park will reopen without one of its rides: the Top Thrill Dragster. The park announced in February it would remain closed after a horrific accident in August 2021, in which an L-shaped metal bracket the size of a hand flew off one of the roller coaster’s trains and struck a woman standing in line, according to officials.

She was taken to the hospital for her injuries, and her condition is unknown.

After the incident, the Ohio Department of Agriculture investigated and found Cedar Point did not violate any laws or regulations in terms of maintenance for the ride. Still, the park determined to keep the ride closed for the 2022 season.
