MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin's 2022 hunting season is rife with fresh changes this year.

Hunters can now get their hands on the digital 2022 combined Wisconsin Hunting Regulations pamphlet and the Wisconsin Trapping Regulations, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced Wednesday. Soon, both will also be available in print from license agents and open service centers around the state.

The pamphlet details season dates, shooting hours and regulations.

But there are some changes this year. It starts with new regulations for open-water waterfowl hunting. As long as waterfowl hunters as are a minimum of 500 feet from shore, they can now hunt in the Great Lakes, Green Bay and Big Green Lake.

Wisconsin deer hunters will be able to enjoy the woods for the 2022 archery and crossbow seasons; they run concurrently from Sept. 17, 2022 to Jan. 8, 2023. In metro sub-units, that season is extended further, ending on Jan. 31, 2023.

The DNR said some counties will offer antler-less holiday hunts between Christmas and the New Year.

Gun deer hunting will take place from Nov. 19-27. Several special hunting periods will also be dedicated to youth and those with disabilities in early October.

And for any squirrel hunters out there, the season will now be extended by almost a full month. Instead of the last day of January, squirrel hunters will now have until Feb. 28, 2023 to hunt.
