Dark Deception Chapter 5 is the final chapter in the Shattered Ring Arc. Face off against multiple new nightmares in the final confrontation with Malak and his army of monsters.

Dark Deception mixes the fast-paced style of classic arcade games with fun horror game design. Trapped in a dark world full of nightmarish mazes and anxiety-inducing monsters, the only way out is to face the darkness and find a way to survive.

Doug wakes up in a dark void and uses his tablet for light. Elise Houser calls his name, and Tammy Houser calls "Daddy". Elise asks Doug why he's there, and Doug claims he wants to make up for his actions, though Elise explains to him that he's there for another reason, with Tammy tells Doug how the end for him has arrived and he needs love. Dark hands suddenly appear around Doug and pull on him. Bierce puts her hand on Doug's shoulder, waking him from the hallucination. Doug and Bierce take a quick glance at the portal for Prison Panic and Doug enters it.[2]

• Chapter 5 will be the largest chapter in Dark Deception. It is bigger than all of the previous 4 chapters combined.
• "Wicked Ways" will be unlocked when all the previous levels are S ranked and all Elise's notes are collected, which will uncover the game's true ending.
  • In the 30th Q&A, it was confirmed that in order to get the true ending it's also required to get S rank in "Wicked Ways".
• In the 28th Q&A, Vince confirmed that there are six total endings (including the S-rank one). Two of them will be earned by completing the game on Easy and Demon modes.
• Vince Livings stated that Chapter 5 might be harder than Chapter 4.[3]
  • Vince backed this up on Twitter by describing the chapter as "absolute madness".[4]
• Vince confirmed in a Q&A video that he and the team were developing chapters 4 and 5 simultaneously.
• This chapter will finish the story of Bierce, Malak and The Riddle of Heaven.
• In the second episode of the Q&A, Vince confirmed that this chapter will have 3 zones in the levels.
• The game's Twitter account mentioned twice that Chapter 5 will have three levels. However, in the third Q&A, Vince mentioned that Chapter 5 has more levels than Chapter 4.
  • In the 12th Q&A, Vince confirmed that Chapter 5 has 4 levels. Later this was again confirmed on Twitter.[5]
    • But later, on January 4th, 2024, it was stated that there will be "5 portals". Fans naturally thought that it meant five levels.
      • However later, in the 29th Q&A, Vince said that Chapter 5 has five portals, but only four levels. He said this will be explained in Chapter 5 and it will make sense later.
• In Cutting Room Vol. 3, one of the cut tracks is named "Malak's Lair (Chapter 5)", which implied that one of the levels would be Malak's Lair.
  • After Malak's level existence was revealed, this became a confirmed fact.
• In the 15th episode of the Q&A, Vince confirmed that all other enemies from previous nightmares will likely return as threats in this chapter where the player has to deal with all of them again, which could make the chapter more challenging and difficult.
• Vince made a poll where people could vote if they wanted to have all four levels released at the same time or separately.
  • Based on the poll, he decided to split the chapter into half; levels nine and ten would've been released in the first part, and levels eleven and twelve would've been released in the second half.
    • Later, it was decided that the chapter would no longer be relased in two parts. This was decided due to the fact that Vince made a deal to release the full version of the game simultaneously on all platforms.
• In the 15th Q&A, Vince said that Chapter 5 is at least 50% complete.
• In two posts on Twitter, Vince confirmed that Chapter 5 adds 13 new character models, none of which come from returning characters.
• In the 21st Q&A, Vince confirmed that Chapter 5 will be the "darkest" chapter in Dark Deception.
• In the 22nd Q&A, Vince mentioned that all of the chapter 5 levels will have a bossfight mid way through the level, and at the end of a level.
• On January 17th 2023, Vince mentioned on Twitter that the following Chapter 5 teaser would reveal Level 10's title and monster.[6]
  • On January 24th, in the Glowstick Entertainment YouTube channel's Community tab, Vince forgot about his promise and revealed an amalgamation of all the previous monsters instead.
    • On January 25th, Vince states that he forgot about his promise, and that the Blob is not from the tenth portal.[7]
      • On February 9th, Vince finally revealed the tenth portal's name and enemy; these were confirmed to be "Prison Panic", and Dark Star.
• In the 24th Q&A Vince confirmed that Malak's level is the 11th level of Dark Deception.
• On April 17th 2023, Vince announced that a short demo for CH5 would be shown on Tokyo Game Show 2023 in September, but the demo was never released.
  • However, eventually Vince announced that he would not show the demo on the show itself, but would show it on a livestream on YouTube about a week after the show.
    • In the end, the demo was never released because it was a heavily watered down version of the level with many props removed, real Mannequins' A.I. being different and voicelines removed, and Vince didn't want to ruin the fans' impression of the level with a bad demo.
• Vince confirmed in the 26th Q&A that "Final Lucky" is one of the scariest characters in Chapter 5.
  • This confirms that Final Lucky will be an enemy in Chapter 5.
• The names for "Fear Fortress" and "Wicked Ways" were accidentally revealed in the files of Super Dark Deception after its release.
• The chapter increases the total character count by 52 (adding +26 new characters)
• In the 30th Q&A, Vince said that each level in Chapter 5 will have +400 soul shards.
  • This was later expanded to 1000+ shards in the 31st Q&A.
• Cinematic teaser trailers have been released for this chapter, featuring events from it, but in an altered rendered form.[8]
  • The first one was released on July 10th, 2025.
  • The second one was released on September 22nd, 2025.
