- To make sure you don't miss an awesome shot by having no juice it's really important that you understand how GoPro batteries work. A GoPro battery is typically going to last between one and two hours but this really depends on what you're doing with the camera and how its been set up. Options like the frame rate, the frame size, and whether or not you're using WiFi or Bluetooth are all factors on performance. Now were going to talk more about strategies in just a little bit to preserve your battery life, but for now lets start by actually getting a battery fully charged. When you take a GoPro out of the box, the battery is likely not going to be fully charged up. So the first step is to get it fully topped off. Now some people like to completely drain their batteries first to make sure it's fully discharged and then charge it back up but these days with modern batteries that's not really that important anymore.
