Charles Manson was an American criminal and cult leader. Manson was born to a 16-year-old girl, who didn’t give him a name on his birth certificate, instead writing “No Name Maddox”. He was frequently left with relatives due to her inability to care for him. In the late 1960s, Manson formed a commune called the Manson Family in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. He used a combination of charisma, LSD, and emotional manipulation to control his followers. Although Manson never directly killed anyone, he was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the deaths of seven people, including actress Sharon Tate. His followers claimed they had a list of celebrities to kill, including Steve McQueen, Elizabeth Taylor, and Frank Sinatra.
