Cherries are one of five different "town Fruit" -- meaning, they can appear natively in your town when you first move in. These native fruit sell for 100 Bells at Re-Tail and 80 Bells at Nookling Store.  

How to get Cherries in Animal Crossing: New Leaf

If cherries don't natively grow in your town, you can get them by visiting your friends' villages, get them from Isabelle, receive them as gifts from other villagers, or occasionally find them in stores. If you add cherries to your town and they weren't native, they will sell for 500 Bells / 400 Bells.

Perfect Cherries

Occasionally, you will encounter a perfect cherry. Perfect cherries are bright red at the top and golden at the bottom. If cherries are native to your town, you can grow it into a tree to get more Perfect Fruit and sell them for 600 Bells at Re-Tail or 480 Bells at Nookling's. However, if cherries aren't native to a town, the perfect ones will sell for 3,000 Bells / 2,400 Bells each. To make the most money, harvest your perfect fruit and bring them with you to sell in your friends' towns.

Note that perfect cherries will not grow into perfect cherry trees if they're not native to your town. For more, see: Perfect Fruit.
