If you thought "Chip" was just a cute nickname, think again! The unique moniker is actually his full name, a fact he confirmed on social media. "God given name: Chip Carter Gaines," he wrote on Twitter.

He's a November baby.

Chip was born on November 14, 1974, which makes him 43—almost four years older than his wife and fellow Fixer Upper star, Joanna, who he's been married to for 14 years.

He aims to teach his kids the value of hard work.

Chip believes in instilling a strong work ethic in his kids, which is why the Gaines children often accompany their parents on work trips and construction site visits. You can even find them working alongside their dad on #DemoDay. The HGTV star also loves finding opportunities to impart knowledge to his little ones. "A friend just sent me this pic of Chip and Duke at the cattle auction. He creates so many teachable moments with the kids," Joanna wrote on Instagram. "Duke is gonna be a heck of a man because of it."

Chip comes from a small family.

Chip may be a dad to four (soon to be five!) kids, but he has just one sister, Shannon Braun. Their parents, Bob (pictured) and Gayle, moved the family from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Dallas, Texas, where the Gaines siblings grew up and went to high school. Chip went on to attend Baylor University in Waco, Texas and graduated with a marketing degree in 1998.

He recently got a drastic haircut for the best reason.

Chip recently shaved his famous man bun off for charity. "It's come to my attention that most of you hate my current hairstyle," he wrote on Instagram. "So here's the deal: Donate to @StJude through the link in my profile, and the more money we raise over the next FOUR days, the shorter my hair goes. That's a promise." The fundraiser was a success, earning more than $230,000 for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital—hence Chip's new look.

He's launched more than 15 projects and businesses since 2003.

Chip is co-owner of Magnolia Homes, where he manages the construction and real estate divisions. The Gaines' growing empire also includes Magnolia Market at the Silos, two books (with more on the way), two television series (Fixer Upper is currently airing its final season), a bakery, and a restaurant slated to open in 2018, among other endeavors—bringing their net worth to around $5 million each. But Chip has always been a self-described "serial entrepreneur," launching everything from a laundromat to a lawn-mowing service over the years.
