  • Cilantro

WHAT IS ADOBO SAUCE?

Adobo is more than just a sauce. It's actually a type of dish that originated in the Phillippines (e.g. Adobo Chicken and Adobo Pork). The marinade preparation for these dishes has taken on a reputation of its own and is now readily available as a sauce in the international aisle of your grocery store, typically alongside the Latin ingredients.

Adobo Sauce is made up mostly of ingredients like chili powder, tomatoes, vinegar, garlic, peppercorns, cumin...and the list goes on. It's for this reason, we're grateful for the ever-so convenient Chipotles in Adobo, which will soon serve as the main flavor component in your creamy Chipotle Sauce!

WHAT ARE CHIPOTLES IN ADOBO?

Chipotles are dried smoked jalapeños, but Chipotles in Adobo are dried, smoked jalapeños that come fully drenched in the aforementioned Adobo Sauce.

HOW TO MAKE CHIPOTLE SAUCE

Homemade Chipotle Sauce requires almost no prep and a maximum of 5 minutes total.

  1. Garlic and cilantro get a rough chop, then they're off to the blender along with the mayonnaise, chipotle pepper, lime juice, and salt.
  2. Press the on-switch, let it whir until the mix is homogenous...and that's all there is to it.

Serve it right away or keep it refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

WHAT DOES CHIPOTLE SAUCE TASTE LIKE?

Chipotle Sauce is a creamy sauce with a vibrant, yet smoky flavor thanks to the combination of the smoked jalapeños (a.k.a. chipotles) and adobo sauce. It's notably tangy and can be somewhat spicy.

If you're afraid your sauce might be too spicy, use one to two tablespoons of Adobo Sauce rather than the chipotle pepper itself.
