The Cinicinnati Bengals are in the Super Bowl for the first time in over 30 years after getting past Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship game on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

Joe Burrow led Cincy to victory after overcoming an 18-point deficit (tied for the biggest comeback in a conference championship) and reached the third Super Bowl in franchise history. Both times Bengals reached the SB, the San Francisco 49ers defeated them, so it's a sigh of relief to be facing the Los Angeles Rams for a shot at the team's first NFL title.

Bengals Super Bowl history

In the 1988 season, Bengals lost Super Bowl XXIII 20-16 to Joe Montana's Niners. Seven years earlier, in its first SB appearance, Cincy also lost to Montana and San Francisco 26-21 in Super Bowl XVI.

Since then, Cincy's only playoff win came in the 1990 post-season, but reached the playoffs seven times between 2005 and 2015, getting eliminated every time in the Wild Card round. They will now look to make history Sunday, February 13 at SoFi Stadium against the Rams, who become the second team in NFL history to play a Super Bowl at home.
