Cinemas
If you’re a fan of film, you’ll find yourself well catered for in Liverpool. Whether you need tickets for the latest blockbuster or a rarely-seen European arthouse masterpiece, there’s a movie house that’s guaranteed to be showing it on the big screen.
The Odeon, an IMAX cinema on the top floor of the Liverpool One shopping mall, is the best place to catch the more popular new releases, with 12 screens and plenty of handy ticketing machines – perfect for when queueing just seems like an unreasonable option, or if you’re picking up tickets you’ve booked online.
More hardy cinema-goers with a penchant for artistic angles and independent films might be more inclined to head towards FACT – the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology which also contains Liverpool’s Picturehouse cinema. Their reclining seats and informative staff make for the most comfortable spot to catch a movie in Liverpool city centre, with plenty of special screenings for parents, pensioners and more, and you can even take a pint in with your popcorn if you’re so inclined.
And of course there’s Liverpool Small Cinema, a volunteer-run affair with lovingly-curated listings, perfect for the niche cinema lover in your life. Further outside the city centre you’ll find the Woolton Picture House – the city’s oldest cinema that maintains the dying tradition of the interval. Go on, get that ice-cream you didn’t think you needed before the film started.
We’ve curated the best guide to Liverpool’s cinemas and film showings, whatever your taste, so explore at your leisure. If you’re organising an event or spot any information which needs listing or updating, let us know by contacting [email protected] with the event and venue details.
