About us

The City of Lancaster is one of the oldest communities in North Texas. The founder of Lancaster was"Honest A" Bledsoe born in Lancaster, Garrard County, Kentucky in 1801. In 1846, he came to Texas and secured a 640-acre tract of land, one mile west of town square today. Six years later, Bledsoe surveyed and staked off the land for the town of Lancaster in 1852. Incorporated in May 1866, Lancaster was one of the first incorporated communities in Dallas County. The City of Lancaster has a Council-Manager form of government. The City Manager serves as the Chief Executive Officer and the City Council makes policy. The City Manager is designated by the Charter as the Chief Administrative Officer with appointing authority for positions of employment with the City and is responsible for matters and policies relations to the general welfare of all employees.

  🎉 Celebrating Leadership and Regional Collaboration! Last week, three amazing team members from the City of DeSoto completed their Business Transformation Leadership Green Belt training—joining forces with the City of Lancaster, TX in a powerful example of regional collaboration. Over four focused days, participants learned practical tools for process improvement, data-driven decision-making, and leadership development—laying the foundation to lead real transformation projects in their cities. Over the next 90 days, they’ll put those skills to work on improvement initiatives, supported by weekly coaching and virtual check-ins. Their journey will wrap up with a graduation celebration and, most importantly, tangible results for the communities they serve.   🚧💪 It’s Public Works Appreciation Week! 💧🚛 Help us give a BIG shoutout to the hardworking heroes who keep Lancaster running smoothly — rain or shine! 🌤️ From fixing streets to cleaning storm drains, and ensuring safe drinking water, our Public Works Team is behind so much of what keeps our city safe, clean, and thriving. 🙌 🛠️ Duties You Might Not Realize They Handle: 🚰 Repairing water main breaks 🛣️ Review, inspect & manage public infrastructure (streets, water, sewer, drainage 🌳 Maintaining green spaces and irrigation 💧 Monitoring water quality and wastewater systems 💡 Did You Know? 🔹 Storm drains don’t connect to treatment plants — they flow directly into our creeks and lakes.
