clap back a.k.a. clapback, clap-back, clapping back It's a witty response to an argument when you feel unfairly treated. For example, when you get dissed on social media and you’re not gonna sit there and take it, you return the favor by "clapping back" and posting a clever remark. It can also be used as a noun when seen as one word.Historical perspective: There were no shortages of celebrity and influencer clapbacks on social media in 2018. The term originally comes from the song "Clap Back" by Ja Rule in 2003. And before that, it came from the popular slang "clap back" in street lingo meaning to respond or retaliate to personal attack or criticism.
