Clash Royale is a deep strategy game. It’s all about outsmarting the opponent and outsmarting him. Even those with extremely strong troops or better cards can often underestimate inferior players and succumb to a well-designed attack. I’ve been playing since release and here are some helpful tips to help me win more battles.

The beginners link above is extremely helpful for beginners, those who don’t know what to upgrade, how to fight, or what works. After playing for a few days and understanding the game and looking for that extra advantage to win more battles, you’ll need to do a few things that we’ve outlined below.

Unlike Clash of Clans, where players build a base or village and hope not to destroy it, in Clash Royale the battle takes place and they fight in real time. Defeat every move with mighty troops, mages, archers, barbarians, or tank troops like a Giant to smash through everything and destroy your towers. Knowing what you’re doing, having a well-balanced deck, and being prepared to take some damage are essential to making a good defensive attack. Yes, a troop mass that will defend, then attack and take down the enemy. Lets start.

Manage Your Battle Deck

The most important thing in Royale is to build your battle deck. There are three different decks you can assemble and ready to fight at your disposal. Each troop has a certain number of Elixir costs. Don’t have too many Epic or rare troops or high numbers as they cost more potions and you will have to wait while the enemy takes you down. Without good variety and a well-managed deck, players will quickly outgrow and outrun their opponents.

Shuffle your deck with both high and low troops

Mix up your deck with both high and low Elixir troops, as well as both land and air. It gives you a wide variety of choices at different times. Mixing with a good variety gives you the best chance of winning. Below we share a few proven decks for getting into Arena 6.

If the enemy has ground troops, throw a Dragon or Minion Pile and kill them, then go and destroy a Tower. It’s all about timing and strategy. To win any battle, players will need a diverse and well-managed deck. If you have many small units, you will perish. Too many large troops or potions cost high, not enough to fight. Managing your deck is essential and here it is more details to build the perfect Clash Royale deck. Playing wisely and to Elixir advantage is also an idea to keep in mind. I usually use low-cost 1 Elixir skeletons to take down an expensive Boar. Instant advantage.

Average Elixir Cost

At the bottom of the photo above is a very important number, which is your “average potion cost” with a particular battle deck. A good deck should be between 3.8-4.4. This deck is understaffed and will likely lose to good players. Anything higher or lower does not have enough power or is too slow and overpowered to compete with a balanced attacker. Either you’re getting beat by splash damage and arrows, or you’re waiting too long to deploy all those 4,5,6 Elixir cost troops. It’s all about managing Elixir, spending it wisely, and making excellent use of your deck detailed above. You don’t want to wait 10 seconds to drop two cards, do you? Mix it up and you get a good variety.

Don’t Attack First

The first thing everyone should know is not to rush when a war starts. Wait for the potion bar to fill, see what the next card is, then decide which troops to use and fight. While some may want to hurry up and attack the opponent right away, your best bet is to wait to see what they open and then respond with better cards. Sometimes I can catch the enemy off guard and attack early, but usually they play defense and wipe out any first wave. As a result, I would recommend waiting, getting on the defensive, and landing your troops and then attacking.

Not to mention waiting, it lets you know which side to attack from, which lets you drop a Barbarian Hut or structure to aid defense. This brings us to our next point.

keep on defending

Even if you get attacked and take heavy damage, it’s worth the wait. Expect something better than spending two archers to slow the opponent down. Don’t be afraid to take some damage if it means being able to counter with an extremely powerful attack. Even if you lose a tower, knocking down the main middle “King’s Tower” means you win instantly. Waiting long enough to take a hard step back may be exactly what you need to win rather than lose or draw. Nobody likes to tie.

Clash Royale

Above would be your best bet to watch a troop to see what happens, rather than drop it instantly. Get on the defensive, take the Witch, and then throw that big Giant to enter the second Tower and get the victory.

I dealt splash damage to Giants, skeletons (to distraction as the Giant deals damage), and troops like the Baby Dragon or Valkyrie Girl. Dragon and Valk deal splashing damage and damage multiple units and buildings per hit. This is really important. While the Valkries capture the incoming Giants, my other troops are heading towards the enemy Towers.

Track Where You Deploy Troops or Buildings

Another very important tip for players looking for a little help when it comes to winning battles is to watch where you place your troops. Be strategic. This is a strategy game, so play it like Chess. Consider what you’re doing, your next move, how long it will take for the Elixir to regenerate, and more. Leave air units to ground units, think about what you’re doing, just don’t use what’s available first. Drop the defensive troops in front of the King’s Tower to keep incoming enemies away from other towers.

Drop troops behind Towers so that when they spawn and are “related” your Elixir is sufficiently replenished to have another card ready to play. Watching top players, they all do it. Don’t leave any soldiers on the side closest to the enemy each time, you will eventually fall behind and lose.

Royale troops

While we’re on the subject, don’t leave soldiers in front of the enemy. They will fire first and deal more damage first. Deploy troops to the side so the enemy has to turn. While this gives you an edge, it also pushes your opponent away from your Towers, which of course is what we’re all trying to protect. Most of the time I will drop Minions in the middle and as they fly sideways the troops will chase them and die slowly, preventing my turrets from being damaged. There are many ways to approach things, so try them all.

After all, those who want to win battles in Clash Royale need to be balanced. From having a well-balanced deck to being well-balanced and ready during battle. It’s a very fast-paced game, but waiting long enough to deploy a strong and well-managed army will lead you to victory.
